A mind-boggling trip. If the bird flew an altitude where she had a tailwind of 100 mph or more, she might have had an actual ground speed of 150 mph or even more for portions of the flight.

The hudsonians are very fast flyers... at least 50-60 mph. Sadly, a small flock got driven right into high tension wires by a sharp shined hawk near my business. 8 of them were killed or seriously wounded.

Our state wildlife pathologist had never seen one, and didn't even have a sample of their DNA or feathers in the state database of over 6,000 birds.
