I love you. Three powerful words. They change lives. Are they real? Unlikely. Men and women blithely utter these three words as easily as politicians promise tax cuts. Do they mean it? Odds are, no. The test below will tell you for sure. continue

Once. With this.

Turned around and plunged my chainsaw into the furry little bast***d's forehead.

I'm beginning to suspect you are correct. I think love is basically a biochemical reaction designed to make us :

a. reproduce successfully

and

b. protect offspring from being killed.

The romantic love chemical reaction lasts long enough for us to successfully copulate, and the love of children is long term so that they have a chance to perpetuate the species.

We're no different than any other animal. We are designed to reproduce, protect our kids, and then eventually die.

Grim, huh? I'm a biochemist/biologist.

If you really want grim, check out the random reinforcement tests they did on mice clicking the lever for a reward of pleasurable brain stimulation. The mice clicked the lever endlessly for a chance at the brain stimulation. And then look around at everyone you see and tell me they aren't doing the exact same thing with every interaction, conversation, and interest.

I told everyone.

They didn't believe me.

Imagine you could know everyones' motivation to do everything they do. And that motivation was nothing more than a nerve firing in a particular part of their brain. And that you are no different. Would that make you happy? Nope.

It's official : I think it might be better to be stupid. I'm going to drink my way there.

Even the desire to do good, nothing more than a few neurons firing.

Humans are nothing more than a cancer on reality's body.

Well, enough happy thoughts for the day. :)

Yes, you did.

Yes, they did.

You did not believe it when they did.

And, if one of you attempts to harm or destroy the other, at any time (including divorce court), love never existed between you.

That's for sure.

“Have you had a child stab you in the back?”

Well, I don’t know that I can really say. I was wondering where the line might be between normal rebellion and stabbing in the back.

“We’re no different than any other animal.”

OOOoooo, wrong on so many levels.

Closing one’s eyes and mind to the spiritual doesn’t render it nonexistent.

It’s not that we have souls, you see. It’s more that we *are* souls that presently have bodies.

The vast majority of people are, to one degree or another, that is true. But it is a choice. One difference between humans and animals is that they can never even conceive that there is a choice much less make one.

Love means having to say you’re sorry, even when you’re not.

Mrs. Cromwell,

Where, specifically, do you disagree with the author? I ask because his main point and your post seem to be saying the same thing.

There is a line for everyone. Where it is probably depends on the thinness of your skin, and just how far they want to push it.

You are correct; it is closer to what I said than I realized. What I saw seemed to end before he reached the 4 pillars. I was mistaken.
