I would think that if the polls are close then McCain might come through!

I always wonder on the effect on potential voters if they believe their preferred party is going to romp home. Do some stay home or do they jump on the bandwagon and go out and vote because they want to say “hey, I voted for .....”.

Similalry does being behind in the polls cause apathy or a determination to make your vote count.

It’s a good question - could go either way. Personally, I think it depends on your proclivity to vote in the first place. I’ve never missed an election, so whether my guy is up or down, he still gets my vote. I personally find being behind in the polls motivating, in terms of wanting to make my vote count, though I can well understand the “what difference does it make?” sentiment that must affect many.
