Looks like dropping the “Devil” from their name did them well.
Well,
With this result so goes McCain/Palins chances for the white house. By her own admission they were just like the red soxs coming from behind to win it all. :(
Fox execs are suicidal...
Rays vs. Phillies. I would have loved to have a $100 bet in Vegas at the start of the season that these would be the World Series teams.
Buh-bye Boston.
The line: 3 runs, 6 hits, and 1 error for the Rays, and 1 run, 3 hits, and 0 errors for the Red Sox.
The winning pitcher was Matt Garza, and the losing pitcher was Jon Lester. David Price got the save.
Boston stranded 8 runners, while Tampa Bay stranded only 3.
Each side hit a home run off of the other team’s starting pitcher. Boston’s HR was hit by Dustin Pedroia in the first, while Tampa’s HR was hit by Willie Aybar in the 7th.
Ironically enough, the winning run was scored by Aybar, in the 5th inning. He scored on a single by Rocco Baldelli.
So Boston is gone.
Early Series predictions?
PHILS IN 4!
prepare to be OWNED. ;)
However, it was a great sports weekend for me:
1. My hockey Kings won in overtime on Friday.
2. My UCLA Bruins came back late to beat Stanford on Saturday.
3. My Raiders beat Brett Favre and the Jets today in OT, with Sebastian Jannikowski (sp) kicking the longest field goal in Raider history (57 yards, and the replay showed it would have been good from another 4-5 yards out).
4. My Lakers finally won a preseason game.
5. The Red Sox lost.
Not a bad sports weekend.
Phils last won the series in 1980. Who else won in 1980? Coincidence? probably. But it’s worth mentioning.
how cute! the haters continue to demonstrate their ignorance...
(that's made in Philadelphia, NY, my FRiend) ;)
Thats just so dumb! nanny nanny boo boo...
Grow up!
I remember the old package had a liberty bell on it, right? I think before Kraft purchased them.
Ha, do you think I just fell off the turnip truck?
A television ratings disaster.
Tampa Bay vs. Philly?
Now would be a good time to organize the ol' sock drawer
Central Florida is rocking right now...especially my neighborhood!

Not so fast there, pardner...
I have a better model, one that goes back 40 years, though it has nothing to do with baseball...but basketball...specifically, the Los Angeles Lakers.
Counting 1968, and going up to 2004, in presidential election years, when the Lakers at worst made it to the Finals, the Republican presidential candidate won every time. When the Lakers at best failed to get out of the first round, the Democrat candidate won every time.
Witness:
1968...Lakers lose in Finals to Boston...Nixon wins.
1972...Lakers win in Finals over New York...Nixon wins.
1976...Lakers miss playoffs...Carter wins.
1980...Lakers win in Finals against Philly...Reagan wins.
1984...Lakers lose in Finals to Boston...Reagan wins.
1988...Lakers win in Finals against Detroit...Bush 41 wins.
1992...Lakers lose in first round to Portland...Clinton wins.
1996...Lakers lose in first round to Houston...Clinton wins.
2000...Lakers win in Finals against Indiana...Bush 43 wins.
2004...Lakers lose in Finals to Detroit...Bush 43 wins.
2008...Lakers lose in Finals to Boston...???
BTW, I called this in months ago to a liberal local sports show...they were impressed by the stats, and thought “that would suck” at the same time!
So we’ll see what happens...the Lakers of the last 40 years may save us all!
