Many thanks to all that replied. One more question: I want to buy 2 more guns, but could not afford yet to buy 2 real nice ones; so I need to buy one middle of the road gun, and another cheap, but somehow reliable one.

In shotguns, the Mossberg 500 or 590 shotgun will fit that bill perfectly. The 500 is lower priced than the 590, but is just as reliable... The 590 is more of a "mil-spec" shotgun, but doesn't kill a bad guy any quicker than the 500.

You get what you pay for.

ESPECIALLY with firearms.

Mossberg P500 pistol-grip 12 gauge shotgun.

Excellent home defense weapon.

If you have a little more cash, I’d go with the Remington 870 instead.

The sound of that slide being racked is enough to make anyone who isn’t either mentally disturbed or on drugs turn tail and run.

:-)

If you’re talking handguns it gets a little more complicated.

And the rule about “rent one at the range and try it out before you buy one” applies to shotguns, too.

Much depends on what you want them for. If you want them all in 9mm parabellum, the proposition becomes more difficult. If are willing to get other calibers or rifles and shotguns, it opens up many more possibilities.
