“Have you checked home prices and jobs?”
Just started about a week ago. The job of course is the main issue. My wife will soon have her paramedic license which will get her work anywhere. For me though it is a bit more tedious as I own and operate a landscape business. Not too many opportunities for landscaping in AK. HA!

Green houses. The only thing you’ll need to study is how to heat them efficiently and with what.
I met up with a guy in Alaska. When he moved up there with his wife and two young kids (4 to 8 years old) they lived in a tent. Lived off all of the canned stuff he had made when he left the lower 48. (Home canned ground meat - yummmmm!)
He worked odd jobs but nothing solid. After spending the summer trying to find full time work he was set to go back. (Two fall snowstorms - still living in the tent with his family had diminished their spirits). The day before he was going to pack up and leave a guy at one of his part-time jobs got hurt and they put him on full time. That was 15 years ago and he’s still at the place.
Anyway - a story like that, full of courage, hardship, toughing it out, hard work and “luck” (or Divine Intervention) really impressed me. And I will not forget it.
I guess snow removal would be a better business. I would expect, however, that there are a lot of jobs for men up there in the oil industry. I read years ago that the pay is excellent.
I’ve been thinking of buying or running a B&B somewhere as that was my prior business in Wyoming. NOW, I wish I was still there!!
