And most of those West Virginia Democrats are socially conserative (Blue Dog Democrats), like Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia. This state went something like 66% to 33% for Hillary in the primary. Some counties were 88% to 10% against Obama. I wouldn’t call it a blue state without Hillary at the top of the ticket. The state went for Bush twice. McCain should win the state by at least 5% or more. I would be surprised if it were any closer.
While I don't believe any poll in WV, having seen conservative candidates get more than twice as many votes as media polls there said they would, the fact is that West Virginia, as of this spring, had 665,234 registered Democrats, 347,760 registered Republicans, and 156,199 registered independents.
