McCain just killed all the momentum and enthusiasm of the last week with this simple sentence in response to an angry attendee at a rally tonight:
“I have to tell you, he is a decent person, a person that you do not have to be scared [of] as president of the United States."
“No, ma’am. He is a decent family man, citizen"

Listen, McCain was in a very tough spot here, the woman started off by saying Obama was an Arab terrorist, I understand where everyone is coming from but come on, if McCain agrees with her he would have been done, McCain has to walk a fine line if he wants to get some independents. Seriously, what should have McCain said, "Yes Maam you are correct, Obama is an Arab Terrorist." The only thing he could have said was that you should be scared of Obama's policies, his associations are dubious but he is not a terrorist or arab. But even saying that would have been dicey. Don't you guys and gals remember George Bush, he never got involved in the negative stuff, he was always able to stay above the fray, remember the Swift Boats, Bush actually condemned the ads, well maybe not condemn but he definitely kept full distance from them. That is the key to winning, you let the negative stuff get out there while maintaining a certain distance.
There is more than this thread. The MSM is making great hay of this. McCain delivered them all they need to decide this election.
The soundbyte is there and there is no going back.

McCain is McCain and will always be McCain. He’s not going to change now for anyone, especially not strong conservatives. Rush was absolutely right today when he said that first we concentrate on getting him elected, then we’ll deal with all the other McCain crap that will undoubtedly come up.

McCain is a SENATOR.. that is what they do. Obama never served long enough to learn these things.. this is why Dole didn’t do well and people were too dumb then to see it... add to that McCain being a Navy brat with two generations of Navy Admirals and a long career of his own and we are asking him to break character... is it any wonder he slips back into this from time-to-time? This is why EVERYONE needs to call or email him their feelings on this.
