Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, W.C. Fields, Three Stooges with Curly—great stuff from the late ‘20s-early ‘40s (some films better than others, of course). I get a kick out of the Our Gang comedies, too. I also like the Blondie series (mostly from the ‘40s), with Arthur Lake and Penny Singleton.
In my book, you have to add the Bowery Boys to the list. Leo Gorcey was hilarious.
Curly Howard ranks up there with the top comedians of all time, in my opinion. He never got his due.
“Cinderfella” and “Which Way to the Front?” Jerry Lewis at his comedic best.
I think it says a lot about Richard Roeper as a film critic that he does not like the Our Gang comedies (A) because they are in black and white (yep, a film critic said that), and (B) “they are racist”.
