Thank you for your reply. I know what you are experiencing with the rock climbers ... my husband has a brother with 4 adult children (ages 25-38), and they are all ultra-liberal-thinking vegan PhD's.

We have found that long, in-depth political discussions should be avoided for the sake of family love & enjoyment, but we never shy away from an exchange of basic political philosophy. I always approach the subjects in the form of a query and show interest in their responses, while making my position known.

Of course, my husband and I live a lifestyle that is consistent with what we speak and they are able to see that it works well and that we are just as 'caring' and 'concerned for the environment' as they.

I hope that you decide to attend your friend's invitation, and I'm sure that you will represent conservative values, which is always a positive thing. Try to keep things 'conversational' instead of 'confrontational'. Think about not even disclosing your political leanings beforehand, as it might put up a negative wall of thought right from the start. Be reasonable and logical and let them figure out where you stand.

Just more of my two cents. Thanks again for listening.

first off, thanks for being nice to the newbie :) secondly, i wrote the lady back and politefully declined and subtly hinted that “we would not be rooting for the same person anyway-haha”. she replied and simply said “oops-sorry for the palin comments then...” and then continued to write like nothing had happpened. sort of anti-climactic, aye? haha!!! well atleast i don’t have to go to her damn party and i didn’t have to lie either!
