A few weeks ago there was a thread outlining firearm choice and the author recommended a semi-auto shotgun. It was not one of the major brand names but a good quality copy. I can't remember the name. Can anybody help? Thanks!!
Im looking to buy something for home defense. I dont need all the bells and whistles and Id like to keep it under $250.00 Anyone have any ideas on a solid shotgun that fits my needs? Here you go. Search Davidson's Gallery of Guns. Use the 'Gun Genie' on the right.
Try it, it should help you. Plus it's fun.
“You probably won’t find a decent semi-auto for under $250.00 I just picked up a Remington 1100 on gunbroker.com for $325.00 added a 2 shot magazine extension for $40.00 and refinished it for $10.00. I cut the 28” barrel down to a LEGAL 18.5” Nice compact home/truck self defense weapon! If you need to keep it under $250.00 a Mossberg 500 pump would be a great choice”
Just make sure after cutting the barrel back, that you test test test the gun to make sure it functions properly. Gas-operated shotguns can have their function altered by shortening the barrel.
That said, I have an 1100 very similar, though mine is longer with a longer mag extension. If you pick up a used 1100, be sure it’s the 2 3/4” length chamber, as it is easier to find good defensive ammo in that length.
He's looking for a SEMI-AUTO, not a pump.
The 500 and 870 are pumps, guys. Read the title first.

Thanks!
Thank you so much absalom01. Appreciate the help.
Hey, your welcome.
I can and do spend hours at Davidson's Gallery of Guns just 'window shopping'.
Their old Gun Search had a feature I wish this new 'Genie' did. You could enter a price range so you didn't spend time looking at something costing $1,500.00 when your budget was $300.00 - $400.00 --- but its still a great website to shop for new guns.
Spend a few bucks more and get a Benelli - you’ll thank yourself later.
