If you think the answer is to declare half the country an enemy and then treat them as such you are by definition un-American. Politics in a democracy is compromise—maybe not the most palatable idea to those of us who hold our beliefs strongly, but it’s fact. Don’t you remember those infuriating filibusters? That’s what non-bipartisanship gets us. A lot of petty infighting.

Many democratic ideas are actually laudable but whenever they try to write legislation they invariably go overboard and then compound the problem by seeing the solutions as a way to get more people on their side. The republicans would be wise to take their best ideas and improve on them. This would give the American people the best of both worlds and totally marginalize the dems. All out war with half the country makes no sense to me.
