You were not wrong. However, apparently, you seem to still think that PBS' front-man was somehow, sometime, ever going to conduct an honest 'debate' (the correct word for this mess is a 'forum', in rhetoric, btw).

The only questions ever about Lehrer hosting this event (to choose a neutral term) were: A) how quickly would he betray his bias toward Osamabama, B) how quickly he would lose his alleged evenhandedness, and C) when he would choose to break the STATED format and STATED subject matter constraints.

It's just half an hour into this event, and he's done all three long since.
