For all you Sarah Palin types.........
Armed Females of America -- They tell you in the anti-gun women's magazines to be aware of your surroundings and to take precautions so you are not caught in high-risk situations. (Don't go out by yourself at night; don't go into high-crime neighborhoods; don't talk to strangers; etc.) They tell you to always check the back seat of your car before you get in; to walk on the street-side of the sidewalk (rather than the building-side); and to get inside a well-lit store if you suspect someone is following you.
These are all good suggestions that I practice all the time.
What the anti-gunners don't tell you is that no matter how prepared you are, and no matter how careful you are, you are still at risk of being attacked. And if attacked, your chances of being maimed, raped or dead are much higher if you have no adequate means to defend yourself. (Screaming, running, and passivity, contrary to what they would have you believe, are NOT adequate!)
I was originally from Long Island, New York, and before I met my husband, I didn't even know that regular citizens like myself could legally own a gun for self-defense. Then my husband taught me about the Constitution, how to shoot a pistol, and how to use a gun for self-defense.
Now I know that as long as I am prepared, I have a vastly better chance of surviving an attack by a predatory criminal. It is exciting to know I have control over my own body and life, and I don't have to live in fear.
Some say I am selfish -- that I am putting my life above that of the criminal. I say: When it comes to criminals, they are putting their lives above mine. Someone who would rape, maim, or kill me is an animal without morals or conscience. The strongest and most well-prepared will survive. Thanks to my handgun and the lessons my husband gave me, I am more likely to be stronger and more well-prepared than my attacker.
Some say I am stupid -- that my gun can be taken away from me and used against me. I say: That is why I take self-defense lessons, and practice my draw, my stance, and my grip.
Some say I am naive -- what if the criminal has a gun too? I say: May the best aim win. If my attacker has a gun, I certainly wouldn't have a chance without one, would I?
Some say I am lazy -- that if I "really" cared about self-defense, I'd go learn Karate. I say: I am disabled, and I have a RIGHT to be able to defend myself ADEQUATELY against an attack!
What do you say?
My Mayor Richard Daley thinks only crimminals should have guns!!
norinco JW-15. IMO its the most accurate PoS .22 rifle on the planet. :)
The lunatic left doesn’t have a clue about firearms, let alone an armed woman!
Molon Labe!!
I love it!
Her first gun, a sweet little stainless .38 J frame with concealed hammer. Then, a NAA .22 mini-revolver with the big folding grip. I recently got her a .32 Beretta Tomcat with the tip-up barrel.
I'm thinking of getting her one of these, a SIG Mosquito, for her birthday, she has expressed some interest in joining me at the Steel Challenge matches.
Anne has some special needs (in the old days, we would have said problems, ha ha).
She has some arthritis in her hands, she's had shoulder surgery and still can't her arms above her shoulders. She can't pull back the slide on a centerfire handgun. She's tried and tried, and has had every gunster we've met try to help her.
For now, we're sticking with .22s, revolvers, and tip-up barrels.
if you’re considering getting a .22 auto, i haven’t heard anything good about the mosquitos yet. my personal choice is a buckmark- they have similar controls to a 1911, and the same grip angle. they’re also very accurate (i can split pens at 25 yards with mine from a rest, or shoot golf balls from a weaver stance)
i’ve heard alot of good about the rugers also, but they have that funky angle that always messes with my pointing.
high standards rock, but are kinda expensive.
Yeah, but it's PINK! You obviously know nothing about women, though you may know a lot about handguns. ;-)
It wouldn't be my first choice. I have a nice High Standard in the safe, that is 50's vintage, but I hate the idea of trying to find five new magazines for it to shoot steel.
I personally shoot the Ruger 22/45 which has the nicer grip angle.
But neither of them are PINK! I've been plowing through the posts at the SIG forum and there is a growing fan base there for the mosquito. (FAN BASE MOTTO: "It's better than a Walther!")
I'm thinking it would be good for her to learn the controls on a .22 that pretty closely mimic a real (centerfire) handgun. She should be able to rack the slide on the skeeter and maybe gain enough strength/confidence to rack a glock eventually.
The Ruger 22/45 rocks. The same grip geometry as a 1911. Both fit me like a glove.
Just remember one thing:
“..if you DON’T carry whenever you can, if you ONLY carry when you think you’re going to be in the “bad” parts of town, or only carry when you “think” you’re going in harm’s way, then you’re playing craps in the dark with the other guy’s loaded dice.”
Good advice . . . except in Chicago where she lives.
In Chicago, carry = jail. (unless you are an alderman . . .)
I’m pinging this guy to your thread so he can learn something. Hope you don’t mind.
“As some wag put it, ‘if you’re in a fair fight, you’re doing it wrong.’”
It’s only a fair fight if you asked to be in it, and both of you agreed to the terms. Otherwise, it’s war.
It is exciting to know I have control over my own body and life, and I don’t have to live in fear.
Bumper sticker:
Yes, I’m pro-life, I choose to carry a gun...and LIVE.
I love shooting it, hate cleaning it. I will never field strip it again. Bore snake and a shot of Bore Scrubber for the guts.
> Im pinging this guy to your thread so he can learn something. Hope you dont mind.
I don’t mind at all. What is it you think I should learn?
Some say I am lazy -- that if I "really" cared about self-defense, I'd go learn Karate. I say: I am disabled, and I have a RIGHT to be able to defend myself ADEQUATELY against an attack!
Hmmmm... interesting viewpoint.
Before I respond to it, I wonder what you think to this notion:
When a gunman uses his weapon to hold up another individual he is unknowingly placing himself in a defensive frame of mind and a defensive situation. It is perfectly obvious that he does not wish to shoot; otherwise he would already have done so. The reason restraining him in a simple robbery, for example, is fear of the law and its consequences. The mere fact that he has not fired his weapon indicates that he does not desire to do so. This gives the man with his hands in the air a psychological advantage, if he recognizes it as such, which he may use at the proper time.
