What if there is riots if Obama losses the election. If you live somewhere where you think there possibly will be riots, I'd like to ask you a question.
Do you know how many yards it is from your porch to the corner of the building down the street? What about to the far side of that intersection? From your upstairs window to the top of the apartment, the big one in the middle of the next block?
NOW is the time to learn those yardages! Not when you are underfire from a bunch of liquered up fools who know that they have been robbed by our election system.
So, if you intend on staying and fighting for that insured piece of real estate, that's your option. But for Pete's sake get yourself prepared beyond polishing your ammo and wiping off the scope lens with a Wipe 'N Clear. Determine their most obvious routes of attack, their availability of cover, their tools of combat beyond firearms such as dogs and molotov cocktails, etc.
How would you attack your position? Study these questions and that'll give you a better insight as to whether or not you can defend it.

The rounds may have the kinetic energy to kill at 1.5 miles, but they’re not very useful in terms of actually hitting a target. Sure, if you shoot the round in a parabolic arc, and someone’s skull happens to be at the far end of that arc, you could kill them, but I don’t think you could do it on purpose.
>I would be nervous about trying it unless I were in something that really resembled a war zone.<
The older colored folks who were in the Wats riots said it was just like a war zone. One of the facts that isn’t mentioned much is the fact that gun sales to blacks living in LA area AFTER the riots went through the roof. Old ladies and old men were buying handguns and a single box of ammo as fast as they could. Something like 300,000 guns were sold in LA the following year. They didn’t like having those crazy kids out on the streets doing stupid stuff.
I'm not sure about that. Remember, the jury pool would be made up of the same fine upstanding citizens who were out there looting with the dead guy.
Not to mention the way the press would spin the story. Self-defense or defense of others wouldn't even enter into it. The headline would be "White man fires an assault weapon into a crowd of disadvantaged minority youth, killing one."
I suppose I should ping you to #60 also.

What I gathered from your post was you were going to try to help the owner of the hijacked vehicle by punching a couple of holes in his car’s engine block. Is that correct?
I do know where there is such a weapon and yessum, there is all the various types of ammo available for them in my neighborhood for such an event. I’m sure you know where to get the necessary tools in your area also.
If he (the owner)was laying in the street dead or dying, I would certainly do what I could to restrain the attacker.
I hate to be a wet blanket, but I work in south-central, and just don’t get any of that “pre-riot” vibe that we had in April of ‘92.
I’m not saying that it’s bad to be prepared, though.
Of course, I could be wrong....
You aren’t being a wet blanket IMO. The last thing I would want to do is be caught in a riot. I can buy another house stuffed with furniture, anyday.
In 20 minutes I can load my bugout bags and the safe in my truck and we’re outa here but like I said, “The threat level of riots where I live is probably encased in dry ice.”, so I don’t see the need for me to get worked up.
This thread is for >If you live somewhere where you think there possibly will be riots< and >if you intend on staying and fighting for that insured piece of real estate, that’s your option.<

Either way, the best choice is to not land in court to start with. Keep in mind that the further from your position the body is, the harder it is to connect you to it - especially after you have dropped a rat tail file down the bore of your rifle a couple of times. It will alter the ballistic fingerprint of the rifle to the point that ballistic evidence will be unusable. Never stick the barrel of the weapon out the window. Shoot from as deep within the room as is practical. Not only does this help prevent visual detection, it helps drop audible levels of the rifle report by a significant amount. "Hey dude, where'd that shot come from? Dude? Dude? Awww damn!!!"
Police up your brass, clean your weapon, drop the file a couple of times and keep your mouth shut.
But if you do end up in court...
Defense attorney: "Did you see the defendant in the window shooting the rifle?"
Witness (assuming he is dumb enough to put himself at the scene): "Well... No."
Defense attorney: "Having examined the bullet recovered from the decedent and having compared it to a round fired from the rifle registered to the defendant, does it match?"
Ballistics Witness: "Well... No."
Under civil unrest circumstances, the chances of getting prosecuted, especially when you cover your bases as described above, are going to be pretty thin. But you still need to give yourself the best possible chance of beating a prosecutor that might be out to make a name for himself (or to get re-elected ala the Duke LaCross prosecutor.)

This is the one Post that’ll save your butt on this thread, so far.

Thank you both, dearly.
Frankly, I agree with you. I think it is possible that what actually happens will be somewhere in the middle. I think that at first, those outside “downtown” metropolitan areas are not going to be at risk. And I think the “at first” scenario is all there is gonna be.
Kinda like Kent state and Watts rolled into one, in multiple cities.
lol
Seabee ping! NMCB 22.
Agreed.
However, saving someone’s life is far more important than ending somone else’s. All my actions will be to preserve life and to do what I can not end it.
This thread seems little more than an indulgence in the standard stupid “zombie rioters! oh my!” fantasy.
Yes, there is some merit in considering certain possibilities. There’s a difference between one scenario in a larger security plan, vs. “get out the chaingun!!1! pwnage gallore!”
I mean really, we’ve got posts about taking 800m shots, stopping BMWs, .50BMGs for “setting boundaries”, “no jury would convict”, etc. WTF?
Post #47 is the only realistic one here. Beyond sheer front-line firepower, issues include no power, no water, firefighting, no communications, being injured, and (among many other things) rioters inconveniently jumping fences in your backyard instead of politely staying in the street so you can “mow ‘em down”. If your house is on fire, things are gonna get complicated in a hurry (didn’t think about that, eh? all your family & possessions are inside, and someone just threw a burning trashcan thru the back window - now what?).
Oh, yeah, and it’s a vanity thread. Those usually don’t go well.
As I was hoping there appears to be a resounding agreement that the best to confront the rioting mob is from a sufficient distance. Staying to fight is not a good idea.
If you live in an area that you believe could possibly become riot territory, consult with your insurance agent to review and possibly increase your coverage. Gather all your important papers together, all your extremely dear momentos and be prepared to leave your other possesions to the insurance claim.
If you walk through your home with a video camera you should be able to get a pretty good idea of everything to list on the claim should the worst come to be.
Stay safe
