I hope you find these questions helpful. I am not an infantry trained veteran. I was a SeaBee who learned the most very basic skills about combat when I was in the Service. Anyone who has more questions and hopefully solid answers will participate in this thread.

In our minds, such speculations and prearrangements are very sound and prudent. Spoken aloud in public, or written, they are bulletin board material for the other side.

From the linked article:
Seven weeks before the 2008 presidential election, liberals are warning America that if Barack Obama loses, it is because Americans are racist. Of course, that this means that Democrats (and independents) are racist, since Republicans will vote Republican regardless of the race of the Democrat, is an irony apparently lost on the Democrats making these charges.Great Point!

Hopefully the low stopping power of my .30 caliber carbine (left to me my by father)is compensated by the fact that I keep 2 30-round magazines and 2 14-round magazines ready at all times.

This is NOT the article he linked to in World Net Daily, by Dennis Prager.

Hope is not a successful defense strategy. You need a solid plan to cover the what ifs!

Do you know how many yards it is from your porch to the corner of the building down the street? What about to the far side of that intersection? From your upstairs window to the top of the apartment, the big one in the middle of the next block? So, you're building a range card to shoot-it-out from inside your home/appartment. I should think it would be better to confront the rioting mob from more advantageous positions.

The threat level of riots where I live is probably encased in dry ice.
I am simply attempting to open up some eyes to what is necessary to defend a position that could come under attack.
I’d start with a .50 BMG Barrett Model 95 or equivalent as a tool to set the approach boundaries but that isn’t always an option for others, especially those living in Kalifornia or Hawaii.

Perhaps instead of using military combat rules you brush up on civilian laws. If a liquored up mob is smashing windows and turning over cars, I’m calling the police and the rifle with the scope is staying in the rifle case.
You can only use deadly force in Texas in the defense of yourself and others against death or serious bodily harm.

We do have FReepers who are saying they intend to stay put to defend their property. I seem to recall the cops pulling out of the LA riots, saying the problem was more than they could handle.
So when there is no cops that will respond and you’re there watching the crowd advance on you, do you leave the rifle with the scope in the rifle case or do you get your range card and burn some ammo?

I leave the rifle in the case of course. Why do I need to check out the yardage?
Texas laws specifically state you can use deadly force to defend yourself and others. It doesn’t say a thing about shooting at anything that requires a scope. That’s not a defensive situation.

During the Rodney King riots, the Korean merchants successfully defended their positions with semi-auto rifles. At the very least, you should consider keeping your rifle uncased and loaded.

If there was a crowd coming down the street torching and looting everything in their path, I can’t say that I would agree with you. No, I don’t think that I would wait for them to get within 100 feet of my home either.
