Now that you bring up the speed of light, it's 186,000 miles per second. The speed of sound is 767 miles per hour. Therefore, light is some 873,000 times faster than sound.
If those are just numbers, try this. If there was a railroad track at the equator and there was a regular freight train on the track going around the Earth at the speed of light, and I stepped across the track immediately after the train passed and it took me 1 second to step across the track, would the train make it back around and hit me before I made it across the track?
The answer is, yes, not only would it hit me once, it would hit me 7 times in that one second!
