They also screwed up the analysis. On Good Morning America, they claimed Palin was “false” to say that throughout history other Veep candidates had not met foreign leaders. Then they said every living Veep had met a foreign leader, and that this would be the first time in 32 years that one hadn’t. So, apparently, Fritz Mondale hadn’t met a foreign leader before he was nominated in 1976, proving Palin’s point. Yet, ABC called it a lie.

Had President James Earl Carter, D.-GA met a foreign leader when he was elected, for anything other than a photo-op? Also, Carter was a Governor; had he also been the mayor of a town for several years? or any other municipality functions or offices?

Someone mentioned to me on another thread that Sarah had met with the President of Iceland, Olafur Ragnald Grimsson at an Arctic Energy Summit that was held in Anchorage last year. Perhaps Sarah was just introduced to him and didn't have a sit down chat so she didn't consider it a "meeting".

I think it is a meaningless question since there would be very few former VP candidates who had actually done more that shake the hand of a head of state and engage in a few seconds of small talk. Wasn't Obama's first real meeting just a couple months ago on his European Odyssey?
