No Choice But The Lesser Of Two Evils

What has happened to the Republican party. When I was 18 I cast my first vote ever for Ronald Reagan. I did that proudly. I had a bumper sticker on car and I put a yard sign in my parents yard. Since then it has been down hill all the way. Now in 2008, the best argument that I have heard for voting for McCain is that he is not Obama. I have no enthusiasm for McCain. Not only do I not have a bumper sticker on my car or a yard sign in my yard, I am embarrassed to even ware a McCain button.

I don’t think that I am alone in this. The only excitement that I have seen generated for either candidate has been among blacks supporting Obama, and they are only excited for obvious reasons. Talking to friends and acquaintances there seems to be a universal disgust at the choice of candidates. This election has truly come down to voting for the lesser of two evils.

What has happened? What went wrong in the primaries? Had we picked any other candidate, we would have the White House locked up already. Of course the same thing could be said of the Democrats. Had they picked anyone but Obama McCain would be toast now.

I am seriously considering voting for a third party this year. Not that I am under any illusion that a third party could win, but I find it morally repugnant to vote someone that is pro immigration and anti gun. The fact that he is slightly less anti gun and slightly less pro immigration then Obama doesn’t impress me.

I certainly will not vote for him, and I invite you to take your pick of the 3rd party alternatives.

Regardless of his VP pick (and while I have little against Palin herself), it doesn’t change the fact that McCain has been terribly damaging to the Conservative movement (especially SoCon, Pro-Life, and libertarian causes).

Things will not change if RINOs keep getting elected.

I am puzzled by your post, and its complete lack of mention of John McCain’s BRILLIANT choice of Palin as a VP pick that has completely galvanized this election. One would have to wonder if you own a television or if your vanity post has, uhmmm, another agenda.

The only light I see is if support for Palin can bring enough of the right people into office. Otherwise it will be a very rough 4 years. Also, she may be a light at the end of a 4 year long RINO tunnel. But that remains to be seen. She may go over to the dark side or the old devil may decide we “need “ him for another term. If she hasn't turned, I would hope she would challenge him.

Whatever his leanings were, the campaign team, of which he is presumably the head, made a decision after the Biden selection to take a risky, bold move. This campaign has played things VERY deftly in the last few weeks. It sounds like she’d been under the vetting process since this spring, and the media is in this frenzy because the campaign held its cards so close to its chest.

C’mon, give credit where credit is due: the candidate controls the message and makes the final decisions. McCain himself is just glowing (for the first time) in the reflection of the joy we conservatives have that he picked a conservative who set the left on its ear. And Obama has stepped up his gaffes from the innocent (57 states, giving asthmatic children Breathalyzers) to the ugly (pig, stinky fish). LOLOL! It’s like listening to a kindergartner who doesn’t get his way, his insults are amusing in their childishness, but they reveal the utter emptiness of the candidate who knowingly utters them.

Sarah Palin has ROCKED this election, and anybody who posts a vanity thread completely ignoring that fact seems to have another agenda, maybe to stir up trouble?

Couldn't we have avoided 9/11 if we had not let the Muslim fanatics into the country in the first place. I'm not a fan of Muslim immigration into the United States either. Come to think about it wouldn't you agree that we would all be better off if Barrak Obama Sr. had not been allowed into the United States?

Palin was a brilliant political choice. Not unlike a brilliant play called by the quarter back of a football team. It may well win the election for the Republicans. So what? Does that really matters if he turns out to Obamba Lite?

He chose or was forced to choose someone who would help get him elected. Bringing conservatives joy had nothing to o with it. Yes he seems to be more animated. But that's only because he sees a serious prospect of fulfilling his ambition.

His gratuitous and stupid remark praising Obama's community service, given what Palin accurately described, is just another example that McCain is still McCain. He's bad news for conservatives. The best we can hope for is that Palin's coat tails bring enough conservatives into office to keep McCain at bay for the next 4 years. And if he decides we "need" him for another 4 years, I hope she will challenge him.

One of the things that has me hesitant about voting McCain/Palin is the fact that I'm not on board with McCain, and I don't know what kind of influence Palin will have in the administration. Is she simply a "token VP" to stir up the base as well as the independents who were considering Obama for his "fresh face" in politics? Can someone tell me what significant influence Veeps have had historically that will give me some confidence that her policies and perspectives will have the desired effect on the executive branch? Will she have some impact on the legislation that McCain signs or vetos? Will she impact the federal justices that McCain selects? So far the only thing that is appealing to me about a McCain/Palin ticket is that she is a heartbeat away from the executive slot, and I still don't really know where she stands on border security and illegal immigration.
