Washington, D.C. (September 9, 2008) -- Mitsubishi says its first Laser HDTV will be a 65-inch model that will retail for $6,999 and should be available in the next several weeks in the United States.
That's according to an article by PC Magazine.
The price tag will be steep compared to similar-sized LCD and Plasma sets. PC Magazine notes that a Sharp 65-inch LCD HDTV now retails for around $4,000.
But Mitsubishi, which is billing the set as 'LaserVue,' said it will revolutionize the high-def industry by offering crisper pictures and more vivid colors. The television, which uses a laser light engine to display images, will consume one-third of the power of a Plasma HDTV.
Mitsubishi is also expected to introduce a 75-inch model of the LaserVue set this year, but has yet to reveal pricing and launch details.
The company says the Laser TVs will have the capability of displaying 3-D movies, games and TV shows.
What contrast ratio?
Good, that means LCDs will drop in price.
They can rename their POS DLP whatever they want but it’s still a POS.
These guys are totally nuts. Call me when the price gets to $3500, and I'll get interested again. Guess my old Mitsubishi big-screen CRT set (now 15 years old) will see me through another few years.
Great - Now I’m going to have to add a room to the house.......
Here is the Mitsubishi Spokesman introducing the new Laser TV.
You beat me to it...
Yet another fine Alan Parsons project..
I *absolutely* love my Mitsu DLP. Really!
I bet you and I have the same 35” Mitsu. Mine is still going strong 13 years later, and by strong, I mean it still has the dis-colorization in the upper left corner when reds dominate the screen.
I don’t have room for a 65” tele of any sort. Few do. Who hasn’t been in a room DOMINATED by a big screen TV (yeah, I’m talking to you, father-in-law)?
But I suppose if the picture is noticeably better then 1080p LCDs (how could it be, I wonder?), I’d be interested - at the lower price-point.
BIG! (Actually, I have difficulty finding that info-sorry.)
senor!
my backup lithium camera battery was missing.
i located it after 2 washings in the washing machine.
i dried it out and re-charged it and it’s working.
for how long i know not.
Not new enough (or different enough) to justify THAT kind of price. Screw'em!
Are there any plans to make a smaller model?
I have a DLP (Samsung) and it’s fantastic. Are you against Mitsubishi’s DLP, or DLP in general?
I don't like how the height of your eyes affects the picture.
I want one!
