FRGC Tuesday SNUBBIES!!!!
Today I am going to bring up the subject of the great and small snubby. Although , the snubby comes in a variety of calibers, all the way from 22 Short up to the S&W 500 Mag, and are fairly large for a snubby. The big bore snubbies do provide compact, outright raw power, and any close encounter with critters that bite and scratch would be well defended against with one of these. Snubbies can also be attributed to the small compact autos, all the way up to an including the Colt Officers size and smaller.
My favorite is also a big bore. A 3-inch 625 in 45 ACP, this gem came to me by way of a trade a few years back. As accurate as any of my 1911s, it sports some Innovative Weaponry night-sights, Pachmayr Compac grips, is fairly concealable under my coat during the winter, and packs the 45 punch.
I also like the k-frame snubbies too. The Mdl 64 in 2 inch is the Mdl 10 in stainless. Fixed sight guns are always a problem, especially if your rounds dont hit where the sights aim. This Mdl 64 hits an inch high with a 6 oclock hold with standard 158 LSWC and dead on to point of aim with 129 gr Hydra-Shoks. It is one of the most accurate snubs I have had.
One that I havent shot yet, but have high hopes is this S&W Mdl 13 in 3-inch. The FBI model and the last revolver issued by the FBI. It also has probably one of the smoothest, lightest, FACTORY, DA triggers I have owned.
Did I mention snubby autios? How about the EMP from Springfield Armory. Now this is as compact a 1911 as it gets. And in 9mm. We cant keep these on the shelf, one, they are hard to get, and two, they fly out the door when we do get one.
Ok, so there are the lightweight J-Frame size S&Ws and Taurus, Charter Arms, Colt, etc. I hope that you all would contribute your favorites.

That's the feller. Or, with the half-moon [or full-moon] clips, you can load and unload all the chambers of the cylinder in one move, nearly as fast as a magazine change for a semiauto. Alternately, a speedloader can be used, though they're bulkier.
Itwas made decades before the S&W boycott.
Change the grips.
I second what B4R said. Pachmayr make a good, reasonably inexpensive grips for the J frame. Their Decelerator grip does a decent job of softening the kick.
I have changed the grips 4 times, but I haven’t tried the ones you mentioned.
It’s a great lightweight carry gun, but man is it hard to practice with!
N-Frames are in a class by themselves for snubbies, and unless you have a lot of height or mass, not too easy to conceal. You are limited to shoulder rigs or high rise holsters for the most part.
It helped soften the kick for me, but no guarantees except that there is no grip out there that will make that revolver feel like you’re shooting a .22!
It isn’t the ‘kick’ that bothers me. That gun STINGS when I shoot it. Kind of like hitting a baseball the wrong way and the bat vibrates the heck out of your arms.
I have three snubbies. A Ruger SP101 357 Magnum
an antique Iver Johnson 38 S&W, and a 22 Harrington Richardson.
I can’t swear to it because I’ve never been to the range with you but I’d lay odds that you are gripping it too tight if it stings. Do you have tiny hands?
I’ve got a 342PD, .38sp. Feels like catching a baseball barehanded.
Can’t imagine a .357, but, they carry really well. Mine is my ‘most of the time’ carry.
Have a 2 1/2”Mod. 66, my bedside piece.
I have a question I’ve asked on another thread but don’t think I ever got an answer.
Will a Mod.625 handle .45 Super?

When I took the Smith in to the local police department for the "safety check" (Michigan-speak for "registration"), the cop at the desk was going to flunk it because the single action function didn't work. I explained Smith made it that way, and he said, "what a dumb idea". Then I told him the story behind it, and that it cost me all of $2 more than a standard M60, and he then said, "what a great collector's item".
After being concerned about print-through with the factory and Pachmayer grips, I found these faux-ivory ones. The fit is superb for my hands, except the pinky finger, which has to shift for itself.
This is my go-to snubbie, although it may wind up a safe queen if my research on compact 9mms pans out.
bttt
I don’t know if they are unusually tiny, but I’m only 5 foot 2 and my hands seem to match the rest of my body. It is, however, the ONLY handgun I have that stings my hands.
Nice 442 is it a pre-lock? I had one but traded it for the PM9. My wife carries a 642.
Not sure on the 625. The .357 is surprisingly not that much worse than the .38 - at least for the first shot. By the time the 5th one goes off the kick is quite fierce, but by then my hand’s numb...
Oh yeah, it’s very pre-lock.
Where in CA? I was born in Riverside County, and grew up in Orange County.
