I'm not so sure Hillary's crew wans't behind the smear with the objective of having Palin drop out. She was planning on sitting on the sideline quietly undermining Obama's campaign and ensuring a loss. That way she could run against a no-name sitting vice president and pull it off in 2012.

I don’t think Hillary and Bill were behind the smears because the media isn’t taking orders from them any more. The Obama campaign was behind it.
