Don’t get too excited, folks.
The reporter is Ron Allen...a damn good and experienced reporter...who did exactly what he should have. He asked a question that’s been the major talking point of the chattering classes, and he, to use a baseball expression, lobbed a big fat juicy one right into Newt’s wheelhouse, and Newt knocked it out of the park.
When Newt ended with a question, the reporter did what reporters should do...he declined to argue the point, and let Newt’s statement stand unchallenged.
Ron made Newt look good. There is no question that Ron Allen is very familiar with Newt...probably on a first name basis, and knew exactly how Newt would answser that question.

That was my impression as well. I thought Allen asked good questions, and set the table for Newt to put Liebermann’s appearance in perspective and to make a forceful case for McCain/Palin.
