PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (AP) -- The smells of basil, Chinese food, fish and baked goods linger in the humid air along Penn Avenue, mixing with the sweat and grime of packed sidewalks and outdoor vendors.

Children cling to their parents' hands and young couples stroll leisurely while elderly people zip in and out of stores they have known for generations.

I forgot to mention that I was in Buffalo over the weekend and ate at the Anchor Bar (inventor of Buffalo Wings). I was pleasantly surprised that they hadn’t gone franchise and held most of their original charm. We got a bucket of hot wings. They were huge, great (a little expensive)and we had wonderful service. We were there on a slow Sunday. I’ve been told it’s not as friendly on a busy Friday or Saturday night, but we loved it. Buffaloans should be grateful that their local legend hasn’t gone all Hollywood.

Good Luck this season. My wife made me give up fantasy football so I don’t know how good the Brownies will be this year. I know football wouldn’t be the same without the “Cleve Brownies” as Myron Cope used to say.

The family and I went down to the strip about 6 weeks ago, right after visiting the Carnegie Museum. Awesome dinosaur display at the Carnegie. Wholeys on the strip is the place to go for fresh seafood in this area. All in all a nice day!

If you like Caribbean food, try Kaya on Smallman St.

Their jerked chicken is fantabulous.

No, Eric Carmen. He had a group called The Raspberries, was one of the great rock 'n roll pianists, (albeit with a classical foundation), and wrote two huge hits based on music of Sergei Rachmaninoff. "All By Myself", (The slow movement of the Rach Second Piano Concerto), and "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again", (The andante of the Rach Symphony #2.

As a pianist myself, I can tell you this guy has some serious chops.
