I fully agree, and I think she should throw down the gauntlet in her acceptance speech at the convention;
Senator Obama has suggested that I am unqualified to serve as vice president. If, in fact, Senator Obama has any real qualms about my readiness to ably fulfill all the duties with which a vice president may be expected to be confronted, then I challenge him before all America to a debate at a time and place of his choosing on the subject of qualifications and experience. Not a debate in place of his debate with Senator McCain or in place of my debate with Senator Biden, but a unique debate to settle an important issue.
A thorough comparison of our political credentials in the open air of a nationally televised exchange should prove not only interesting and informative, and I long to have the pleasure of just such an opportunity to let the people themselves decide — without surrogates and without teleprompters or slick advertisements — who is best qualified to serve in the offices for which he and I are running.
And those of you in the media who think I am not up to the job, why don’t you join me in asking Senator Obama to meet me face to face, so that a free and fair discussion can take place and all pertinent questions about qualifications and experience can be asked and answered once and for all? I think that’s only fair and appropriately democratic. Let the people decide, Senator Obama!
