  • Ramadan begins today, and lasts through September 30.

  • Vietnam celebrates Independence Day

  • Today WE celebrate Victory Day - Japan's WWII surrender to Allied forces in 1945

V-J Day (with V-J denoting "Victory over Japan" or "Victory in Japan") is the day that the Empire of Japan surrendered to the Allied forces, effectively ending World War II. The informal surrender occurred on August 14, 1945, followed by the formal surrender on September 2, 1945. V-J Day can be considered any one of three days: August 14 or 15, or September 2, but most observances occur on August 14. Sadly, V-J Day doesn't appear on most calendars today and it is either ignored or given light coverage by news media.

Today is also designated "PLAY DAY", and what better
way to play than to play like a kid again!
This poem was written by Nicknamed_Bob for

Amy's Place on July 8, 2005.

(The 'kid' below just reminds me of NnB.)   :)

Being A Kid

Being a kid means never having to say you’re sorry, and mean it!
It means someone will come along and fix it, you can play.
It means that tiny things can mean a lot to you, a marble, or a peanut,
And you will get to eat, before your stomach says, “Okay!”

And someone will remind you that you need to sleep.

It means you know someone who always has the money,
To operate the candy vending thing, and will.
But makes you do those silly things like ask,
And won’t cooperate with voices that are shrill.

Someone who thinks a promise is to keep.

It means that all you ever have to do is play,
‘Cause that’s the way you learn things, don’t you know?
And they will praise you for the funny things you say,
Unless you got them staying up to watch a show!

And they’ll carry you uphill when it is steep.

Lisa Braun, "September"
The Spirit of the Northern Lakes
Saskatchewan calendars

Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh, so mellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain was yellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a tender and callow fellow.
Try to remember, and if you remember,
Then follow.

Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow,
Follow, follow, follow, follow.

Try to remember when life was so tender
That no one wept except the willow.
Try to remember when life was so tender
That dreams were kept beside your pillow.
Try to remember when life was so tender
That love was an ember about to billow.
Try to remember, and if you remember,
Then follow.

Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow,
Follow, follow, follow, follow.

Billie, that is so lovely and I was wondering who would post September song first. I love that song. Willie does great on it....romantic, isn’t it?
