NHC expecting Category 5 status at any time.
Thanks for the updates NN!
I think it may be hard to escape a cat 4+ hit on the U.S. unless we get lucky with eyewall replacement, etc.
You getting heavy rain? My guys went fishing this AM, said they dodged the showers in the bay, just put the boat away, and now it’s pouring with heavy gusts. This can’t be outer bands, can it? I tried to load the Swiftmud sat photo, but it wouldn’t load, really slow.
This one’s going to be like scrubbing the kitchen floor with a fire hydrant.
I think Gus will go more west, a Port Arthur, TX landfall, but I know nothing, just a guess
I was surprised, watching TWC, that the Hurricane Hunters were allowed to fly across Cuba to get directly to Gustav. I thought they weren’t allowed in Cuban airspace. Maybe TWC had it wrong. Or maybe Raoul Castro realizes it’s stupid to deny them transit when you are staring down a killer hurricane and the HHs can give you up-to-date info.
I suspect it will depend in part on the forward speed of Gustav.
Just now (1400):
Perhaps it is simply a matter of Castro’s inability to do anything about it, given conditions.
The Katrina relief effort was politicized from the beginning which shows that here was no concern for the citizens of LA from its government, what a bunch of Dem Aristocrats!
It was " Bush Cheated to Become President, I am not dealing with him!" What idiocy. And the people paid severly for it. Nagin is still the same. If he's not careful he may meet with a hurricane situation from which no one will rescue him, priority Omega. He's just that much of an AH.
And now there's blubbering? Oh please.
Just go away, fade away into your uncaring treasonous fog!
I think we get rights to fly over for tropical activity.. it’s probably in their own best interest. I’ve seen them fly over a few times.
Pursuant of a formal request from the Federal Emergency Management Agency through the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, the Los Angeles Fire Department is deploying 28 members of the LAFD staffed FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team, California Task Force 1 (CA-TF 1) to Houston, Texas as part of FEMA’s mobilization to the Gulf States in preparation for Hurricane Gustav.
These specially trained, certified and equipped members of the Los Angeles Fire Department will be traveling 1500+ miles by ground to the Houston area, where they are expected to arrive within 36 hours.
The men and women of the LAFD ask motorists to remain watchful for these and other convoys of emergency apparatus being deployed in advance of the storm, and to be mindful of the space necessary for them to safely maneuver on local roads and highways.
Pursuant of protocol, official public and media information regarding these LAFD personnel *during deployment* will be provided by or through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and their designated representatives.
Starting Sunday, only those with tickets will be permitted to
enter Armstrong airport. The New Orleans airport tentatively
will stop all operations by approximately 6 p.m. Sunday. We
encourage ticketed passengers and those wanting to leave
the area to contact the airlines as soon as possible."
Thanks for the FEMA staging info.
Yes, it will depend on forward speed to some degree. Once into the northern part of the GOM the warm water is not as deep, so if it takes its time waters will cool.
It should be noted that if this does end up shifting a bit more east and targetting NO, the angle it’s coming at would quite likely produce worse surge than even Katrina...
Did Elle & Rodguy evacuate?
