Can anyone tell me why one guy has to wear a different colored shirt? Is he the captain or something?

I was just wondering that....and have been the whole olympics. The women's team also had one player in a different uniform.

Libero (different color shirt). It’s a position in volleyball. My oldest was Libero before she became Setter.

That player is called the “libero.” ....a fairly recent development in volleyball both internationally and in the NCAA.

They specialize in defensive skills, and aren’t allowed to block or attack the ball when it is entirely above net height. The can also replace any back-row player without notifying the officials. ...when the ball isn’t in play.
