McCain can cinch this now, with Governor Sarah Palin as VP. Big! (vanity)

Posted on 08/23/2008 8:44:02 AM PDT by Cringing Negativism Network

With the Biden pick, Obama has just opened a huge opportunity for McCain!

If McCain picks Palin, he will win a landslide, not seen since the election of President Ronald Reagan.

For all the same reasons. This could change history.

So here’s a question I ask in all honesty about her, because I don’t know a huge amount about her.

Is she the President that you want to have? Because in four years, with there being a reasonable chance of McCain not running for reelection, whoever is selected as VP right now is going to be the heir apparent.

I just don’t know enough about her to know if she’s better than all the other choices, but I would be hesitant to pick her just for some tactic electoral reason.

Luckily the choice isn’t up to me of course.

I agree - Sarah looks to be an awesome pick - She’s everything that Hillary is not - except that as a woman, she’ll peel off all the pissed-off women who wanted hitlery...

What state besides Alaska would she help carry? And Alaska is already a safe bet. The McCain campaign would have to spend half its time educating voters who Palin is, rather than spending time running against Obama. Nobody outside Alaska has ever heard of her.

Having a woman on the ticket doesn’t mean women are going to vote for McCain in large numbers. Also, Palin is an admitted past pot smoker and is in legal trouble in Alaska over her firing of a state commissioner. Picking her would be a wasted choice.

If McCain wanted to really throw a wrench in Obama’s mess he’s creating...

He could make the announcement in a joint news conference with Governor Palin TODAY, exactly one hour after Obama’s. :)

McCain’s a lot more of a fighter than the GOP has had in a very long time!! He could pull something like that off.

I really think he should.

Mix it up a bit! The media is getting sickening about Obama.

I have been excited about the idea of Sarah Palin for quite some time. I believe nObama has “screwed the pooch” with his selection of Biden, and as you said, opened the door for McCain to make a great strategic choice.

My one concern about Palin is: can she perform the traditional role that the VP performs during campaigns? Can she be the attack dog? If the answer is yes, then she is the choice.

If I were McCain I would look at all the potential female running mates (and I am sure they have) such as Kay Bailey Hutchinson and Gov. Palin.

I hope he picks her! He would definitely pick up some of the disgruntled Hillary supporters if he did.

Wouldn’t a known commodity like Kay Bailey H be a better pick? I like the idea of a woman but Palin’s such an untested one.

Irrelevant. Stupid youth stuff wasn't an impediment for President Bush either.

Well, untested from a political standpoint is not as much of an issue because as far as experience goes she has more experience than nObama does. The dimmis sort of took that off the table.

With all due respect for Ms. Palin, I want a vice president with the balls of Dick Cheney, just in case ol Johns ticker was to give out on him. I want someone who can deal with the basties in this world in case of an emergency and not just sit there and look prety, You do remember LBJ and his ilk don’t you?

She then would garner the Ron Paul supporters along with the state of Oregon and maybe California.

I have my doubts that Palin can attract a lot of Hillary voters. They want Hillary! and no one else.

Less than two years as governor of a small (in terms of the size of the government) state. Her resume prior to that is pretty thin.

Prior to her election as governor, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council and two terms as the mayor/manager of Wasilla. During her tenure, she reduced property tax levels while increasing services and made Wasilla a business friendly environment, drawing in new industry.

She has served as chair of the Alaska Conservation Commission, which regulates Alaska's most valuable non-renewable resources: oil and gas. She was elected by her peers to serve as president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. In this role, she worked with local, state and federal officials to promote solutions to the needs of Alaska's communities.

It would be hard to attack Barak's lack of experience while putting up Palin as VP. More importantly, if something happens to McCain, I think she might be in over her head. We really need someone who would be ready to be President from day one.

“I have my doubts that Palin can attract a lot of Hillary voters. They want Hillary! and no one else.”

-

That’s IMHO why John McCain should strike *now*.

Before the dem convention solidifies the angry Hillary backers behind the new ticket.

They can be had. But McCain will need to be bold and grab the agenda back from the monolothic Obama media circus.

Today! Do it today Senator!

Take the fight right to the dems. On their big weekend.

Start it. Right now.

Personally, I think Sarah Palin will bring way more votes to the ticket than some barely known white guy. Picking one of the usual suspects will cost McCain the election, even with Biden on the other ticket.
