McCain can cinch this now, with Governor Sarah Palin as VP. Big! (vanity)

Posted on 08/23/2008 8:44:02 AM PDT by Cringing Negativism Network

With the Biden pick, Obama has just opened a huge opportunity for McCain!

If McCain picks Palin, he will win a landslide, not seen since the election of President Ronald Reagan.

For all the same reasons. This could change history.

They want Hillary! and no one else.

I'm not so sure. It's pretty clear that the Dems didn't mind pissing off women -- 55 or so percent of their base, I'm guessing -- but quaked at the idea of pissing off black voters. I think Dem women are angry enough (and I have to say, I can't blame them) to vote for the party that has the guts to nominate a woman.

Either Palin or Kasich would be a great choice and strategically brilliant. I'm praying McCain doesn't go down the same old, dull VP road Republicans usually do.

I think the VP cannot be just based on gender. It has to be someone that has the correct experience

i agree with you. sarah palin is appealing but i don't know that she is ready to be president at this point and that has to be the criteria. Condi is prochoice and that nixes her in my book. i don't know if Kay is prolife or not. she certainly has been around enough. her kids may be older than Palin's, who has the newborn, that also gives me pause.

I don’t think you’ve thought this through for the reasons stated by other posters. Lack of experience, questionable presidential material, unknown quantity, etc. Your choice would KILL the “Obama no experience” tactic. There is NO WAY McCain will pick someone with so little experience, and he shouldn’t. The FIRST rule of picking a VP, is selecting someone who could be President on DAY ONE. Period. Democrats have at times ignored this for political expediency (Ferraro in ‘84), but Republicans have not. McCain certainly isn’t about to start now!

Wouldn’t a known commodity like Kay Bailey H be a better pick?

Kay Bailey Hutchinson is a horrible pick. She's RINO to the core.

Dems will not “self destruct”.

Obama has made a very significant tactical error, selecting Biden. This was a result, IMHO, of three factors:

1) Fear of Hillary as a VP (justified - would you want to be the only thing standing between Hillary and the Whitehouse?...)

2) His confusion at losing his sparkle, following his silly European Vacation. He doesn’t at one level, understand Americans. He’s Indonesian, and a muslim. He doesn’t get it. So he settled, in his confusion, on someone who he knows “gets it”.

3) World events have gotten ahead of his agenda of surrender. He needed someone who’s not seen as a weenie.

He’s blown it. Bigtime.

But that doesn’t mean, the democrat party is going to self destruct. The democrat party is increasingly an incredibly efficient power-grabbing socialist machine.

It’s very important Republicans stop being such mamby-pambies and start playing hardball politics to WIN against the socialists.

Socialists now control our schools, our government bureaucracies, our media and all of Hollywood.

Socialists did not gain control of all those things by self destructing. They did it, by beating conservatives, a little bit at a time, over and over and over.

The LAST thing Republicans should be doing is just standing out of the way.

Remember Bill Clinton’s spin machine. For all his sleaze and personal defects, he was brilliant at spin.

That’s how Republicans need to be.

We need to fight to WIN.

Win.

Yes I know, many would prefer to be thoughtful and reflect on subtle aspects of this, or that.

None of that matters if democrats win.

We need to take of the gloves, and deploy our strongest vote-getting team out front right now. In democrats’ faces.

Every day. Every minute.

We can work out the details later.

I think 4 hours before the Dhim floor vote would be better.

Well, she’s been governor with a hugely supportive husband, several children and lots of press.
She can obviously handle the the media onslaught against her, as a conservative Republican.

From comments here, some can’t seem to fathom that she can be beautiful AND entirely competent, both as a mother and a leader. Right now, she is both.

I don’t know enough about her, but I’m sure McCain does.
He knows more than anyone what’s at stake. I envision more flak against her from conservative mothers than from any other demographic, don’t you?

I raised our children, maintaining an at-home business and it’s HARD, but I did have help occasionally. If Palin is right for a key position in McCain’s administration, she will have all the immediate help she needs.

You can't be serious. That not WOW!!!

That's mocking her. She looks like a loon, not the highest ranking politician in Alaska

She is a very attractive lady, probably a great Governor to boot

I want someone who can deal with the basties in this world in case of an emergency and not just sit there and look prety,

Agreed. Too often people only think of who would attract the votes. You have to stop and ask yourself, "Do I want this person as president?" With McCain, the VP = Pres is almost a given.

Maggie Thatcher - yes; Golda Meir - yes. Palin - not yet.

Actually, having a strong conservative as VP would help McCain solidify the base in all 50 states.

Having a woman gov as that strong conservative would be icing on the cake.

I’m not the least bit worried about who Joe Biden would eat alive in a debate and who he wouldn’t. Remember Lloyd Benson in his debate with Dan Quayle? He made mincemeat of Dan Quayle and look how much good it did for the Dukakis-Benson ticket.

She is not a RINO!!!!!!!!! She has a conservative rating of 90 compared to a 7 or 8 from Obama.

About the only thing that she is not totally pro-life on is Embryonic Cell Research, or at least she didn’t vote against it.

Here’s her voting record

First, we have to make sure she is ready to be President.

Being President is a lot different than running an at home business.

I’m sorry but I can’t imagine having a President who has to go pump her breast during an important cabinet meeting or meeting with an important foreign official.
