NASHVILLE, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Singer-songwriter Roseanne Cash says she's "appalled" by others invoking the name of her father, music legend Johnny Cash, to "further their own agendas."

Writing on her Web site, Roseanne Cash, a Grammy winner with 11 No. 1 country music singles since 1979, took exception to unnamed people appropriating the memory of her father, who died five years ago. While not singling out anyone in the post, the message came only days after country music superstar John Rich said Johnny Cash would have supported likely Republican U.S. presidential nominee John McCain, The Nashville Tennessean said.

Rich, appearing at recent rally for McCain, reportedly said, "Somebody's got to walk the line in the country. They've got to walk it unapologetically. And I'm sure Johnny Cash would have been a John McCain supporter if he was still around."

Roseanne Cash wrote, "It is appalling to me that people still want to invoke my father's name, five years after his death, to ascribe beliefs, ideals, values and loyalties to him that cannot possibly be determined, and to try to further their own agendas by doing so.

"This is especially dangerous in the case of political affiliation. It is unfair and presumptuous to use him to bolster any platform."

Let’s see when you’re late for the party what do
you do? Just jump in I guess.
First Marty Stuart is a distance cousin to the wife.
Saw his home place near Philly(MS) one time. He has very
country roots. He was at the Jerry Clower festival last year.
Another cousin of the wife played in the band that opened
for him. He said he was arrogant SOB and wouldn’t have
anything to do with anybody. That may be why he is
a has been that never was.

(best parts of Mississippi today are rural...)
That would be me. I go to Jackson on when I have to.
45 murders so far this year. Now they are trying
to hang this guy.

LOL!

No problem.

This pick is very special.
I ran into Waylon’s bus driver just after he cleaned out the bus.

He helped me with finding a Martin guitar for my husband, and gave me the pick to include in the anniversary card.

That’s the only reason this pick is special. ;o)

Thanks for the ping!

I’d heard about this and I hate to say I think Ms. Cash has a point. Nevertheless, I’m very glad John Rich is speaking out and “Raisin’ McCain”. (Those “Americana” clowns just bore me to tears. Tired, old hippies, all of ‘em.)

Lipscomb’s a great school. Freshman year is so exciting, sigh... Best wishes to your daughter!

Our little Niece has also packed up and moved into her first college dorm. We’re told that she didn’t sleep a wink the night before, realizing that it was the last night she’d sleep in her own room as a kid, a watershed moment.
