Attorneys for [Jeffery] Wood were in the federal courts this week seeking permission to hire mental health experts to pursue their arguments that Wood is incompetent to be executed tonight.
Texas courts have turned down Woods appeals.
Wood was convicted in the January 1996 slaying of Kriss Keeran, 31, at a Texaco in Kerrville.
...[Daniel] Reneau, Woods roommate, was executed in 2002 for shooting Keeran.

I always thought this was the lamest and most asinine defense. Of course you’re mental; look what you did! And does not change a thing.
Is he incapable of lying there for the needle? If he's not competent enough for that then the question must be asked: is he even competent enough to breath, to walk, to go to the bathroom on his own?
Seems execution would be doing him a favor - ridding him of his incompetence.
If the guy is that crazy, just strap him to the chair and tell him it’s a carnival ride.

You’re probably right. It’s so difficult to get someone committed these days, and I”m sure there were abuses, but I think it’s abusive to have them run around and live under bridges too.

Jeffery Wood was to have been executed Thursday evening...
So, the Feds let him OFF! The SCOTUS 5 -4 liberal decision in 2007 shows up here. Now another 8 years, I guess! I wish they ould put him in general populations so he could become some big ugly dude's "girl friend".
