The one scene I objected to was where the British burned the church full of people - that was based on a true incident where a barn full of horses was burned alive by Tarleton. There was no need to exaggerate imo.There were atrocities aplenty.That's the scene that Foreman and other critics objected to.
It looks now like the whole controversy was about that one scene too many or one exaggeration in the film.
But it certainly did get play in the British papers.

One more American General of the Revolutionary War that is hardly even mentioned in history books of today, but who deserves far more recognition, is George Rogers Clark. My son and I read about his exploits in the far west (of the time) where he and just a few brave men basically pretty much doubled the size of our nation.
The courage and tenacity they had was almost unbelievable. Someone ought to make that movie !
