Cat with four ears 'a target for catnappers'
The Telegraph ^ | 8/19/2008

Posted on 08/19/2008 8:51:02 PM PDT by bruinbirdman

This four-eared cat is so rare that his owners keep him indoors to prevent him getting catnapped.

The feline, named Yoda, has two extra “flaps” behind his normal ears, but is otherwise in good health and appears to have perfect hearing.

His owners, who picked him out from a litter of eight-week-old kittens being handed around in a bar, say that local vets were mystified when they took him for a check-up.

"We began to realise that we had something very special,” said Valerie Rock, 65.

"As a result, he has been an indoor cat and has a chip installed in case he gets lost,” she added.

"Yoda is so different that we were concerned that he might be catnapped.”

Valerie and her husband Ted, from Chicago, Illinois named the cat Yoda after hearing that the Star Wars character was based on George Lucas's cat.

"People do a double take when they see him or his picture. It is great fun showing him off,” Mrs Rock said.

"We have actually had people ask if we had his ears cut to look this way. But he is a perfectly normal affectionate, curious cat and is a joy to have around.”

Yoda's extra ears – which are not thought to help him hear - are not attached to the base of his skull, with one placed slightly behind the other. They are believed to be the result of a genetic mutation.

Multi-eared cats are rare, but not unheard of. In 2004, a six-month-old cat with two extra ears was put up for adoption at an animal shelter in Germany, and in the same year Russian media reported that a kitten had been born with seven ears.

From "Messy Beasts".com ... what a great name for a website! ;-)

Website? "Messy Beasts" would be a great name for a Rock Band!

“Fluffy, if you look, you’ll be stricken BLIND!”

“Well, Snowflake, would it be alright if I just risked ONE eye?”

Your basket of kittens, they must not be many Tom cats in the neighborhood, as these sure look alike.

Lovely.

These pets belong to President and Mrs. George W. Bush. Sitting on the left is Barney and on the right side is Miss Beazley.

The cat also belongs to the Bush family; when they arrived in the White House, the cat’s original name was offensive to a group of people whom I’ve conveniently forgotten.

President and Mrs. Bush changed the cat’s name, but the new name was offensive to yet another segment of society, so now the cat’s name is Kitty.

Somewhere, someone isn’t happy unless they’re offended.

Poor Kitty, he should have been some other color, or the dogs need to change colors, so the difference will show.

We lived in a small town, Chloride, Arizona.

The town was full of big black dogs, almost every house had one.

No, not a plan, just the result of a small town 125 years old.

We never did figure out what you would call the breed, 125 years of mixed genes.

I think there’s a pinglist for Moral Absolutes. I don’t know who runs it...

But that dog shows more humanity than does obama.

I like your photo of the Mama Dog, look at her, she has a look of
“How can people do the things that they do? “

“I don’t understand”

Thank you for posting the story.

LOL, came to your photo of the blue kittens, did you look at their faces?

Some are sweet, and lazy, bet they are tom cats.

Several are sharp faced or ‘V’ shape, they will be the females, alert and great hunters of mice.

NO, I am not pushing the feminist platform, just looking at them to see what I see.

If the females didn't hunt, the males and the babies wouldn't get to eat! Just look at the men in most 'underdeveloped' countries; while the women cultivate the soil, plant and weed and harvest, the men sit under a shady tree drinking beer and talking about how brave and strong and clever they are!

Yes, I have noticed that the men of today in some cultures are not holding jobs.

We have had that for years in my area, the wife has a job, and all her other duties, but the men never get a job.

After 30 years here, I still do not know why it is like this.

LOL, I am so old fashioned, that I still think of “husband and wife means “A TEAM””.

Is it that in the beginning, the husband went hunting for the meat, while the wife and kids grew some food and prepared the meals.

They traded their bows and arrows, for a grocery store and a bottle of hooch.

So goes life.
