LOL! Glad I could provide some humor for you. Yes, it is really serious stuff, but we can occasionally have some laughs to lighten up the critical nature of the importance of this election.
Enjoy the Olympics! I do not like to place a political wall on our athletes based on something as irrelevant as politics as far as the Olympics are concerned.

I tried trimming my beard. I look like I have mange, and it looks like someone skinned a goat in the sink. I gotta find a shop around here that does beards. LOL!

WHen Russia went after Georgia - reminders of
Hitler were certainly there. Except this Hitler has a bomb or two and is friendly with Iran.
So who are they going to sell their oil to?
To: The Raven; Molly Pitcher
Actually, I think it is exactly like the last time Russia invaded Georgia -- in 1924, and for almost exactly the same reasons. (Then: Communist control of satellite states; to break alliances with the West; Now: To rebuild the USSR back in Putin's model; to prevent Georgia from joining NATO).
Check out this article:
The moral influence which may be a powerful force with civilized countries is unlikely to to make an impression . . .
Good question on the oil, though. I thought China, but the Chinese want to beat Russia as the dominant force and want to avoid dependencies with Russia, so who knows?
To: The Raven; Bitwhacker
So who are they going to sell their oil to? It's probably because I've been out in the sun weeding, but who is "they" in your question, Raven?
I've read that Russia is in a much stronger position economically today that it was 18 years ago when the Soviet Union collapsed. That may be a non-sequitur, but I'm still sun-struck;-)

The Russian/Georgian war moves into its second, dangerous week. Georgia is going to fall to the Russians.
And there is not a thing we can do to stop it...short of getting into a shooting war.
And we don't want to do that.

Molly, I took Raven to mean who will Russia sell oil to.
Russia is much stronger than when the collapse occurred, but that, too, is on the wane: Check out this article from this morning's OpinionJournal about how entire industries are being destroyed and corrupted by Putin & gang:

I know its sad to say but I’m glad Russia showed its true colors NOW with Bush in office....I hate to think what a mess Obama would make of it...if he was sitting behind the big desk.

I really don't think Russia has changed much since the old CCCP days. Some of the names have changed, but the players are still the same.

Well, it should be interesting to see how Condie Rice, the acclaimed Kremilinologist and Cold War realist, will respond to a full-scale attack on Georgia, our ally and NATO wannabe.
I think Georgia is lost already, it just hasn't been anounced yet...
To: Dog
Its heart wrenching to think of the fate of the Georgians after they fall under the Russian boot again.

The catz
HATE
ME.
Working on house projects today. Kitchen sink drain is repaired, AC replaced, some minor rewiring in the breaker box.... And then a recalcitrant piece of hardware in the bathroom. Being tired of messing with it, I brought in the air compressor and a die grinder with a cut-off wheel. 5 minutes later, I'm ready to install the replacement hardware.
Just for the record. Catz hate air compressors, the whine of a die grinder, sparks, and me. :)

Oh! Thanks...for the links, too.
Ledeen being interviewed by Prager...says it was Putin who looked into Bush's eyes...hmmm..
Well as for your former point, and maybe mine too...even economically weak, Russia can create a mess of trouble.

I agree, I think Russia is overplaying its hand, big-time, and it's too bad about Georgia but that was going to happen anyway (and Putin has been threatening to do it for years).
And it will also be interesting to see what Mr. Citizen of the World has to say about this new little war, because everything he has said about diplomacy, from Iran to China to now Russia, has been proven demonstrably false and dangerous.
Johnny, there is only one thing that is different about Russia now, and that is that the old guys at least followed an ideology; these new guys don't believe in anything...;-))

Eastern Europe better be on guard....the BEAR is back and it wants its satellites back.

The russians have a saying "о-русски Вы можете выучить вытерпеть что-нибыдь, даже висящ, если вы висите длиной достаточно."
Roughly translated "You can get used to anything, even hanging, if you hang long enough.
Yeah, it's going to suck to be a Georgian for a while.
