Father of former Olympian killed in Beijing By BETH DUFF-BROWN, Associated Press Writer BEIJING - The murder of the father of a former Olympian at a Beijing landmark cast a sad shadow over the first full day of Olympic competition Saturday, just hours after China's jubilant opening of the Summer Games. Todd and Barbara Bachman of Lakeville, Minn. — parents of 2004 volleyball Olympian Elisabeth "Wiz" Bachman and in-laws of U.S. men's volleyball coach Hugh McCutcheon — were attacked by a Chinese man while visiting the 13th-century Drum Tower. The U.S. Olympic Committee confirmed Bachman died from knife wounds and that Barbara Bachman suffered life-threatening injuries. She and their Chinese tour guide, who was also injured in the attack, were being treated in a Beijing hospital. Elisabeth Bachman was with them at the time of the attack, but uninjured. Her father was chief executive officer for Bachman's, Inc., a home-and-garden center based in Minneapolis. The assailant, Tang Yongming, 47, leapt to his death from a 130-foot (40-meter) -high balcony on the Drum Tower, just five miles (eight kilometers) from the main Olympics site, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. The midday attack sent shock waves through the games precinct after the Olympics' spectacular opening ceremony had set an ebullient tone.

And its only day 1. I expect when these game are all said and done, the IOC will be regretting they chose the CHICOMS to host them. They be a nation on the rise but they are not ready for prime time.

So I guess we weren't ready for prime time when that bomb went off during the Atlanta Games.

Prayers to the family of the victims.

This actually sounds like a senseless act of savagery by a scumbag loser who recently got dumped (gee, wonder why?) by his wife. Not sure we can blame the ChiComms for that. After all, we have plenty of the same here. At least the scumbag took his own life, giving him a one-way ticket to Hell. Too bad he didn’t do that before harming anyone else.

PS There is a chance that this is just the spin the ChiComms are using and the MSM is helping them cover for it. We’ll see.

You are comparing the US to China? Their government is far too neurotic to have millions of visitors roaming the streets surfing the web etc.. Not to mention they are too involved with nefarious regimes around the world which draws protests, and in their country protests are not allowed, yet they are struggling with appearing 20th century yet still stifling protests.

“the IOC will be regretting they chose the CHICOMS to host them.”

Why would they? Those that selected the PRC prison state were probably well compensated.

I have spent much time at Bachman's, in the summer for their flowers and plants, and in the winter for their home decor and holiday items. It's a wonderful place to go to immerse yourself in beauty. Kind of like a spa for the mind.

Their stores offer beauty and pleasure to many, and I'm so sad that they have had this ugly and violent tragedy happen to them.

This is just horribly sad.

I didn’t know Todd, but I worked closely with Bachman’s for several years and got to know Dale. They are all such nice and helpful people.

Prayers for all of them.

It seems that Minnesota is in the news alot lately. And most of it for reasons that are not good.
