I’ve been thinking a lot about the Chinese and I’ve got some thoughts/questions.
First, thanks to the host for this live thread. I was so happy to see it because I’ve always had a fondness for the Olympics, although I’m not athetic and don’t understand a thing about a lot of the contests.
As for communism, it’s not a good system but has anyone noticed that communism DOES seem to work but only with orientals. Think of Vietnam.
What seems to happen, the orientals are hard-working people who keep to themselves. China is the largest country in the world without any major religion. Yet China has never been involved in a lot of wars.
What seems to happen, communism gets them through until their inborn work ethic finally brings them rewards and a middle class, even upper class, emerges and the communism seems to dissolve.
I know I’m not making much sense but bear with me.
Another thing, I know China treats its citizens bad on so many levels but damn, there’s 800 million Chinese! If they were so unhappy there’s sure enough of them. Frankly I think the Chinese live in their families and their work and don’t much care what’s going on in the rest of the world. Look at how they are when they live in America.
Anyway, I’ll throw out what might be an unpopular sentiment. But not one country on the planet Earth has participated in the Olympics with such dedication as China. The Chinese are major players in every Olympics I’ve ever watched. Thus it seems fair that China should have a chance to host the events.
Anyhoo.....just a few thoughts to ponder.
Perhaps more than that!
1.3 billion when the show started. Probably up to 1.4 by the time the show is over.
You are so very welcome! I am glad you are here!
As for the rest of your post, I don't think I'm smart enough to answer. LOL But, they were a feudal (sp?) system for thousands of years and heavily divided into classes, so maybe that plays into it?
Ummm...
I heard the announcers say there are 1.3 billion. With that kind of dedicated work force, they can pretty much accomplish anything they put their minds to.
Communism works for those on the receiving end.
China doesn't involve themselves directly in wars, they provide weapons, etc. to our enemies behind the scenes.
If they don't care what goes on in the rest of the world, why are they so intent on spying on the rest of the world, gaining our military and missile secrets?
From what I understand, China takes the children who show Olympic potential away from their families, and send them to training facilities.
There are over 1.3 billion Chinese, or 4 times as many as Americans. They have much less usable land and therefore the population density in inhabitable areas is much more than the U.S. It would definitely make for a different kind of government, especially for a people who have very little tradition of freedom. I would like to visit China one day and get a feel for the “real China”. I think it would be really interesting.
First, ask the folks in the prison camps in Vietnam how communism's working for them. Or ask the folks who survived the killing fields in Cambodia, or the folks who get tortured for having an unsanctioned prayer meeting in China.
Second, Democracy seems to work pretty well with orientals, too. See Japan, Taiwan and South Korea.
