I was listening to my radio real early this morning and the news said that a Chinese man (stabbed) I think and killed an American relative of some coach at the Olympics. He then jumped to his death. I have looked to see if anyone has mentioned it but I don’t see it anywhere.

The Dem Nat’l Convention - is that what you’re talking about? Do you know when the GOP thing will be and who’ll be hosting the live thread on that one?

The physical manifestation of the heart of communism on display: there are no individuals. EXACTLY!! Disturbing is the only word for it. But I'm just an American individualist.

September 1-4. I don’t know if anyone has any plans to host a thread. Honestly, I knew the Olympic threads would be contentious, but the RNC live threads will be brutal. At least we can all come together and laugh at the Dems. ;-)

“The physical manifestation of the heart of communism on display: there are no individuals.”
My daughter said the same thing. She said they all look exactly the same. The funny thing is that she was born in Vietnam.
She’s American now, though. You can’t wipe the spirit off her face.

It reminded me of the Arirang festival the North Koreans do.

Okay...Here’s an assignment for you FReepers:
I watched the Opening Ceremonies live o CBC, then later on NBC after I got home from work. Both Peter masnsbridge (of the CBC) and Costas mentioned that the Cauldron “appeared out of nowhere”. Matt Lauer said “Folks, that wasn’t there 30 minutes ago”.
Does anyone have any idea, any link to a news story or ANYTHING on how in the heck they managed to hide something that massive and get it set up so fast???? THAT is something I want to know!
That lighting ceremony blew me away!

I don't know if you listen to Michal Savage but there's nothing like listening to him during one of these goofy debates or during the boring speeches at these conventions. The guy can be really funny. Anyway, the Dems are so far gone that its hard for him to find a foil for humor with those guys. But the GOP - now that's where he gets a fire in his gut and can really be funny.
Anyway, that's kind of how I feel, even though as you say, the GOP thing will be fairly traumatic. The Dem thing to me is like watching Loony Tunes (Daffy Duck, the nominee apparent, with Porky Pig set to make a scene at the convention.) If I thought I could stomach it, I'd probably also laugh through it.

I'll never forgive whoever was the progamming IDIOT that put McKay on live at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. It was clear he was a bit slow for live TV...the twits at NBC should have known McKay should have only done pre-recorded interviews/profiles.
Rest well, Jim McKay.
Yeah, I do agree he was a little "slow on the draw" at Salt Lake although up until he died, he wasn't always like that. Maybe it is because of his age combined with jet lag and the fast pace, who knows, but he is and will always be a class act. BTW, I did like what NBC did when the Opening Ceremonies ended, they did show a slide of Jim McKay and dedicated it to him in tribute.
I'm watching the Olympics now and they seem to be sticking more to the sports and less sob stories, maybe they've heard us and many other complaining. Yes, they still hop around a bit but then again, they are half a day ahead of me in the Eastern Time Zone.

On my home page I have a bunch of quotes regarding humor, because, IMO, what angers us, controls us. Anything we can laugh at, we can overcome- even Daffy Duck and Porky Pig. ;-)
You can turn painful situations around through laughter. If you can find humor in anything, even poverty, you can survive it.- Bill Cosby
On the DNC live threads, we can join together and laugh. I hope the same is true for the RNC live threads, but I give it about 3 posts before someone turns it into an immigration debate that lasts the whole week. The mods are going to be working OT! LOL

My son told me he heard a similar thing, but I have not heard anything either. My son said that the radio announcement said there was an attack on American tourists at the Olympics...but that’s all he heard. I suppose it is the same incident.

Is there a thread for day two? I'm enjoying watching the yummy mens row their boats.
For all that spectacle last night, I must say the Chinese have invented the cure for insomnia: An opening ceremony. Pretty. Boring. Pretty boring.

Watching is not quite the adjective I envisioned for Bender.
I have to admit that women’s beach volleyball is fascinating....

I saw Sarah singing. They were introduced, then the tv booth guy said he is one of the most popular singers from China, and she is from the original Phantom and is also wildly popular in China. He sang solo for a long time before she joined the song.
