Ok, I clicked over to the opening ceremony (I am ashamed - could not stay away)....
Impressions:
The drummers were amazing and, um, a bit intimidating with the red marks on the center of their foreheads...was that intentional?
The rest of the entire special effects with the precise coordination spoke very highly of Chinese precision.
The fireworks were amazing.
Why did the “history” portion of the presentation not include anything about the millions killed by Mao and in the Cultural revolution and in their slave labor camps?
Now - the atheletes are walking in. Cannot tolerate Bob Costas.
Thanks for this commentary. Hope to chck back in on this thread from time to time.
FREE CHINA!

Did anyone else notice the world globe when it turned to show the US?
A giant cloud obscurbed the country. Mexico and South America was fine.

I heard the announcers say there are 1.3 billion. With that kind of dedicated work force, they can pretty much accomplish anything they put their minds to. If Mao had lost their civil war and they'd become a capitalist nation on the Japanese model...imagine how different the world would be now.

Have they ever made the nations wave the host nations flag as well as their own. Why are they waving the Chinese flag. Obama-sized ego there.

Why are the "M" nations walking in to bagpipe music??
Am I missing something?

And many did fight Germans and Japanese. What’s your point?

I love when the countries come in wearing their traditional national costumes. I really think we need to dress as revolutionary war soldiers next Olympics. ;-)

Looks like someone dropped it and quickly tried to put it back together before the meeting.
