Dragonflies
Little wonder the dragonfly,
Seems but a naught to catch the eye,
For every Summer that goes by,
With dragons in such short supply.
When dragons roared and snapped their teeth,
The 'flies would scuttle underneath,
To bite them, and the world bequeath,
A peaceful world of glade and heath,
Where dragons do no longer dwell,
Perhaps they've been outsourced to Hell,
The glade now rings to tinkling bell,
Of cattle that are raised to sell,
In markets, where a crafting hand,
Displays a dragon that once stalked the land,
In search of castles so futilely manned,
One thought that dragons were what God had planned.
And yet we live and prosper now,
With dragons caged in dreams somehow,
Give thanks while munching on your cow,
That dragonflies can take the bow.

Grace, Power, Beauty. All are encompassed in this magnificent creature. Gliding high overhead, He dances upon the thermals above, surveying all below. With unimagined speed he dives, Filling with terror the hearts of those below. Racing above the treetops, He bears down on his target. With one sweep of his mighty wings, The village is leveled, Nothing left but memories. Returning to his lair, He is content in the knowledge that he rules all that he surveys, Crouched upon the ledge, He spreads his wings, And with a mighty roar, Leaps into the sky. The Dragon flies again, And He is Me.
