Where we are was the alluvial shallows of a glacial pond once upon a time.
The leftover silt is littered with boulders, layers of clay, and sometimes ‘black dirt’.
(Onion country around the corner from me.)
Drainage is a bit of a trick, the clay isn’t pottery grade, but it doesn’t drain either.
Pretty darn close to useless, and you have to do horrible things to it to make it useful.
We have thirty two roses total.
Some we still have to move to this location from the old place.
*sigh*
Third shift makes life SO fun.
Sounds like a gardener’s nightmare (speaking of dreams, LOL). Good luck to you. That’s going to be spectacular with 32 roses blooming. I only have about 18, I think, and I am sure they would perform better if they were better cared for. It’s going up to 105 today. They are on their own. LOL.
