Not sure I agree with all of these, but I think this would make for good discussion...

im still a big fan of w2k...xp doesnt mean all that much to me..and i dont care about vista...

as far as ‘goodies’ i really dont use much to begin with...i use my pc network at home for music, ebay, email, surfing...etc..

why do i have to have these things? they dont seem to add all that much to what i do...

I don’t see where it’s bashing to point out features that appear to be achievable and that are useful. Frankly, it seems to me that unless customers make vendors aware of their perceived shortcomings and make suggestions for improvement, the vendors will suffer as a result. These writers are doing Microsoft a favor.

Maybe, but the problem is that M-soft is rather tone-deaf when it comes to listening to the public and its customers.

Best non-existent feature:

The “Stop Helping Me” button. MS spends so much processing time trying to do stuff I don’t want it to.

Unless people put up a continuous rebellion, Microsoft, Walmart, and the other merchandizing giants will decide what is best for you and you will be left with that and will have no choice in your life. Those giants are already shaping the culture to suit themselves.

could be 18 items you could do without. iso burning few endusers do that. About the only thing in that list that I have used and liked was #2 virtual desktops. But even that I don’t need enough to install a third party app on vista. If I need it I could just hook up another monitor.

You can make a case to MS for changes but “because Mac has it” won’t get you very far.

MS is a big company, far far far bigger than Mac. They have a huge customer base to think of and consider impact on. Mac doesn’t and can cater to more boutique tastes.

How many of those features would you give users in an enterprise environment?

The entire article is “Mac is so cool and great”

“How many of those features would you give users in an enterprise environment?”

A lot. Many of those are productivity boosters.

Productivity boosters?how do you figure?
1. I still dont see what the fuss is about
2. if merited the enterprise user would probably get a 2nd monitor....no biggy. I have had to work on 3 or 4 computers remotely using one monitor.
3. haha yeah any good sys admin is not going to let anyone use backtomac or gotomy pc on their network. If merited they will have other options
4.screen sharing, usually there will be some conferencing software, but then not everyone is going to need that either
5.thru adequent training enterprize users put thier files on a network share, which is backed up
6.iso burning,um yeah Sadie in accounting needs to make a windblows OS cd.
7.ok, this might be helpful, but most use the outlook reminders
8.podcast capture...you got to be kidding me, productivity waster
9.computer has all the software needed to do your job, if not you request it. You damn sure wont be installing something from a “repository”
10.they themselves mentioned this is not useful just cool
11.maybe but then your computer probably just has office,IE,adobe reader really dont need a dock for that
12.this one might be helpful, screenshot of an error code
13.the reason macs have mulitouch is because they only have one button.
14.wtf, dont get it....
15.nope
16. nope
17.once again there should be much on a work computer, who cares the menus dont match
18.un necessary, you arent installing or uninstalling programs anyway.
that said some of these might be good for home computers, but they are not productivity boosters. One productivity booster is learning how to use the dang thing lol

People have been bashing MS since Christ was a corporal on features each operating system should have.

So MS then puts (some of) the features into the new releases.

In typical fashion, MS then gets blasted for copying or stealing these new features. And, funniest of all, they get blamed for putting new features into their o/s simply to put small software shops out of business. The same features the press lambastes MS for not having they then excoriate for including.

Like clockwork.

Yep. I am sure some of them aren’t necessarily MS fans but will call a spade a spade when they see it. No web server? I used to use MS’s built in IIS for hosting my files when I maintained a site years ago.

I really don’t think this is a case of “Mac Envy,” or its opposite.
