College tuition is approximately $35,000 annually now. 4 x 18 x $40,000 (for price increases) gives $2,880,000 Not an impossible figure, but still a large one even for most business people. I still question the quality of their childhood when looking at the amount of parental time any one child will have. Look at single parent families, and those probably have more time with the kids than these will. And single parent kids generally are not as happy or as successfull as two parent kids.
Not everyone needs to go to college and not every college education has to cost that much per year.I still question the quality of their childhood when looking at the amount of parental time any one child will have. Look at single parent families, and those probably have more time with the kids than these will. And single parent kids generally are not as happy or as successfull as two parent kids.
This analysis proceeds on two assumptions:
(1) Parental love is a quantifiable, zero-sum resource which can only be parceled out in discreet amounts.
(2) Parenting quality is a function of individualized allotment of time, therefore a single parent with two children has a greater allotment per child than a two parent household with five children.
In reality the purpose of parenting is to raise children of a good moral character who will be honest, hardworking and compassionate individuals.
An enormous amount of parenting is simply through example. Your kids learn from watching you how to act and what to value.
Both parents being loyal to each in a loving marriage for life is the kind of example that is impossible for single parents to instill. This is qualitative, not a quantitative difference.
Moreover, when I play catch with my three youngest for an hour or so after I get home from work, all three are having a great time with me and with each other. Should I take each one aside separately and play catch with just that one for twenty minutes apiece?
Why would doing things in a group with your siblings detaract from family time?
Um, so what? The kids can work to save for college, get scholarships, work their way through school.
I actually believe it is more beneficial for a child to earn at least part of their own way through college instead of having it handed to them on a silver platter.
Funny, my college was $700 per quarter in fees ($1700 now). My cost of living was less than $9,000 per year on top of that. Furthermore, I made 3/4ths of that on summer internships.
Not everyone has to go to an expensive private college.
Who said the parents even had to pay for college? There are student loans, grants, scholarships, and working for your tuition.
I doubt their daughters will see college.
are we the only people in America that couldn't afford to have big college nest eggs for our children?.....honestly, we saved for our retirement where we could and provided well for the kids, but saving for college was out of the question....
we've gotten two thru though.....some loans but also we paid money monthly for room and board, etc....
college is doable.....most college educations are meaningless anyway unless the recipient has the get up and go afterwards...
