What if McCain picked Joe Lieberman?
opinion | 07-23-2008 | brianbaldwin

Posted on 07/23/2008 10:48:39 PM PDT by Brian_Baldwin

Joe Lieberman would be a personal choice of mine in that I would believe it could bring in enough votes to take the win for McCain, but obviously while I admire him so very much there are a number of political issues I disagree with – but there are also many that I agree with Joe on. The problem is I’m dreaming this one, because I don’t think the conservatives would be very happy with this choice. Still, I have him as a personal favorite, but it isn’t going to happen.

I liked Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska), but the problem is the latest news that Sarah might have fired a public safety commissioner because he would not fire a state trooper who was involved in a divorce with Palin’s sister. Not sure the whole story here, but there might be an independent investigation on it and the phony liberal news which is running Obama’s campaign would be on the spin 24x7 over Palin and this story on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, and LSD if McCain picked her.

I voted for Mitt Romney, and he would be a first choice, but the problem is this. McCain looks like a midget standing next to Mitt. Appearance matters. So it won’t work.

The Jindal already said he’s out, he would have been another choice of mine.

Those were my choices, three of which are not going to happen, one of which might happen (Mitt) but like I said, if Romney is picked you could never have McCain and Mitt on the same podium together, or even on the same stage … or perhaps even in the same room … if the cameras were rolling … because McCain looks like Mr. Peepers next to Mitt, like he’s a midget. So it won’t work.

That leaves me with nothing.

What about Hillary? She’s a Democrat, but …. It would win the Presidency for McCain. Just wanted to kick the apple cart.

So, I guess, all things aside, there is still Rudy. I would go for that, but then McCain would probably loose the election as a result.

People keep talking about Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-Minnesota) – I’m not really so sure this would pull in enough votes to swing a state for McCain as some say. And, he’s got a nice guy appeal to him, but I can’t figure out what’s really in his head as far as positions. I guess I don’t know enough about him.

John Thune opposed the 2007 comprehensive immigration bill – which is exactly why he would appeal to voters like me to really get on the McCain bandwagon simply because it would to extent calm my fears about McCain and his too affectionate and confused ideas about illegal aliens. It would help the ticket among the base, but it wouldn’t really help in the General election. He has that “look” about him – you know, that “Marine” look. But the deal on that is, he almost looks “too square” if that makes any sense. McCain would never pick him anyway.

So, everything sucks. I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens – a rabbit out of the hat?

Jumpin’ Joe. Joe is the guy. You don’t like him. But I do because it wouldn’t be the end of the world. Because it would be the winning ticket. Jumpin’ Joe. All the conservatives would go bezerker – but then … we would start to like Joe. You would see.

And – just think about talk radio! Man, it would be exciting stuff, and man it would be news. Everyone talking. Some screaming, some reconsidering, some looking at the strategy, it would bump Obama right off the front page! And the conspiracy theories!

Man oh man, this would be FUN!

Because, there’s always Rudy. Rooo-de, Rooo-de, Rooo-de. You want that?

Ok – talk to me. Who is left?

If McCain picks Loserman he is finished. He needs a younger co-star.

A Romney or Jindal - somebody with SOME conservative credentials.

If he picks Loserman, I will vote third party and hope Obama beats him.

He might as well. McCain isn’t going to do anything for conservatives, so why should conservatives delude themselves by asking for a meaningless gesture.

our only hope is congressional races, heck even if we have to vote out the rinos in congress ultimately it will be a win. unfortunately the GOP doesn’t even have a candidate for 2nd district Arkansas.

LLANDRES WROTE: "Yes, BJ would’ve probably been a great choice - he’s certainly got a glowing political future ahead. Mitt would be a bad choice for many reasons, unfortunately."

Romney is BY FAR the BEST choice for VP (actually for Pres. as well, but we've got McCain).

Romney is GREAT where McCain is WEAK:

(1) Romney knows economics and has been EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL in business.

(2) Romney is the ONLY Presidential or VP candidate who has had SUCCESSFUL EXPERIENCE---**BEFORE** even getting into office---of PREVENTING A TERRORIST ATTACK IN A TARGET RICH ENVIRONMENT!!! The Olympics is a TARGET RICH environment and he was the ORGANIZER for keeping it running SMOOTHLY, working along with Homeland Security in PREVENTING TERRORIST ATTACKS and KEEPING PEOPLE SAFE.

(3) Romney has the MONEY---and CHARISMA---that McCain needs to WIN, but lacks, to pick up and EXCITE the base AND the Country.

(4) Romney is FANTASTIC at giving a speech---WITHOUT A TELEPROMPTER---and at answering questions spontaneously!

(5) Romney's Morman religion, along with B. Hussein Obama's Muslim and Black Liberation Theology religions, would not be "touchable." (It is my understanding that if your father is a Muslim, YOU are a Muslim forever). As an evangelical Christian, with DOZENS of Morman relatives in Utah, I have NO concern about Romney running the country if he had to take over.

ROMNEY is the BEST CHOICE!!!

(Sorry about so many caps, but I'm too sleepy to bold and underline things right now. I just woke up from falling asleep in the den and I've go to bed.)

He would go down in history as the reason America became energy independent, if he would simply jump from the Democrat to the Republican Party and help to move the agenda forward.
otherwise he will be just a footnote in history, first Jewish American running for Vice Presidency.

The way Obama keeps running his mouth, I don’t think McCain has to worry so much about the independents, it’s the conservatives that he needs to worry about.

I agree with one point - and the McCainiacs should pay attention - if the sole purpose of supporting McCain is to keep Obama out of the White House the best pick would be Hilary.

If the story about Sarah Palin and the firing of the trooper is or can be proven not to be true, do you (or anyone) think she could still be a strong possibility for choice of VP?
