Double-red flags ban swimming at Ocean Grove beaches Sunday afternoon.
The Star-LedgerSeries of 6 photos show a man riding a personal watercraft is catapulted into the air by a large swell just outside Shark River Inlet. A second rider comes on the scene to assist as the first rider is beneath his machine. The rider gets his craft upright and races safely out of the surf impact zone.

People come “down the shore” without ever having been swimming in anything deeper than a backyard pool. There ARE riptides and undercurrents. The ocean is a dangerous place for the unaware.
