I hope my 1911 .45 is working smoothly if this dude with his hand cannon should bust into my house! Come to think of it, maybe I need a second .45 semi-auto so I can fire one with each hand ...

I’ll agree with all of that.

I’ll add: a recoil spring set to the ammo you use.

Your gonna spend the same $$$ either way.

Buy better, spend less at the custom shop.

Tony - I wouldn't. Given the price of top tier smith work I would start with a higher quality base gun for two reasons...

1) You will probably end up paying more in total on the Armscor as more work might need to be performed to bring it up to spec

2) The Armscor (even after all smith work complete) will not have the value on the market that a similar Colt or SA will bring.

In short, if you're going to put $1500+ in mods you might as well start out with a top tier base gun.

For what it's worth I usually pick the smith and then contact them to see which frames/slides they prefer to work with and buy that.

I've found that for a ground up build you cant go wrong with Les Baer slides/frames.

Sig Sauer P220 Combat with laser. I have a regular P220 but sports Hogue grips and Tritium 3-dot sights.

You mentioned that you've got a 629. I load 8.5 gr. of Unique over an RCBS 44-250-K(ieth) which gives 1005 fps out of my flat-top and a friend took an elk (very quick and humanely) last season in Idaho with one of those loads in a Marlin lever gun.

I do have a 629, but as I think I mentioned, it's a Power Custom Grand Master, so I really baby it with light loads, even though I really don't need to. If I'm looking to fire "manly" .44Mag loads, I use a Ruger Redhawk. Thanks for the info.

Tony, I’ll agree wholeheartedly with R_S....

If you want the best ground-up custom, Les Baer is the way to go. You’ll never want/need anything better; just bring your home-equity line with you! :)

I will add crappy ammo. If you are shooting cheap ammo the accuracy will stink and the ejection will be erratic. I shoot lots on sa pistol. Good ammo, clean gun and firm grip get er done.

On my first post upgrade test drive, I hit a playing card 5 out of 5 rounds at 7 yards

er, I can do that with any old cheap 1911. I mean really, 7 yards? You wasted your moeny.

What are you using now?

I think you just need to get some training and up your skills. If only some of the shells are going up it is probably something you are doing wrong (no, using a cross eye should not do that). Practice more with that one, or get a smaller caliber to skill build up. Dumping money on it might be a total waste. I am perfectly happy with a 450 dollar 1911 without all the bells and whistles. Until I can shoot better than the gun there is no point in upgrading.

Also, please use capitol letters and complete sentances.

Know of any remakes that are as good?
They are not really 'remakes' because they never stopped making them. There are dozens of decent brands of them out there.

The Ruger Vaquero is a beautiful gun. I bought one for the same reason and really like shooting it. Ammo prices are really cramping my shooting times.:^(

Thank you sir for your advice. From now on i will use capital letters and better sentences. Sir, i am using STOEGER COUGAR which is other name for BRETTAS COUGAR 8000 in 9mm. I have shot 6000 rounds from it without any problem what so ever.It has all the traits, which i want in a gun. The only problem is that i want to move to .45 auto and cant find a gun with traits i like.

Boy:

I'm never hit with brass when I shoot weak handed.

You seem to have either no training or poor training.

Most likely you have a limp wrist.
