During this time period Tolkien was beginning to cash in on his celebrity - as well he should.
I remember seeing many posters and artworks with his image and images from his book - The Hobbit - popping up in the 'Head shops' of the era.
I had a rather large poster of him sitting on some very gnarly tree roots. Quite stunning actually. Wish I still had it...but that was long ago and far away...in a land that time has passed by....(cur Hobbit music)...

Must have been the same era when I was seeing “Frodo lives!” scrawled in subways and buses. My college had a whole “Middle Earth” complex of dorms.
