I’m not sure the ‘details’ of how the notice transpired, but he was ‘informed’ he would be in VN within a few months. He did go to Camp Lejeune, but not sure it was before or after VN.

I’m not sure the ‘details’ of how the notice transpired, but he was ‘informed’ he would be in VN within a few months.
I graduated from PI in '66 and was "informed" more than a few times by my DIs where I was headed.
But before I got my orders I went through advanced infantry training first, then artillery school, and then I was stationed with a mortar battery at Pendleton for a few months before I "volunteered" for VN.
