A 91-year-old Greendale woman who was trapped under a vehicle in her garage for about two days this week is recovering at Aurora St. Lukes Medical Center in Milwaukee, her niece said.
Betty Borowski, who lives alone, apparently became stuck sometime Sunday when she tried to retrieve her keys, which she thought had fallen under the vehicle, Greendale Police Chief Rob Dams said.
Borowskis head appeared to be pinned under the axle, Dams said.
She was pretty well wedged in there, Dams said. It looks like she crawled under head-first.
The keys were in the cars door, Dams said.
On Tuesday, Borowskis mail carrier noticed that Mondays mail was still in her mailbox, so he rang the houses doorbell and then asked a neighbor if he had seen Borowski lately, Dams said.
The men became concerned and called police, he said.
Officer Mike Susalla, a 22-year veteran of the department, looked through windows into the house and garage and called Borowskis name before hearing a faint call for help, Dams said.
Susalla kicked in a door and found Borowski under the car, Dams said.
Firefighters then lifted the car with a jack and removed Borowski, who was dehydrated and confused, he said.

Lol!
And I thought that I was the only one that always happens to.
This is really a terrible thing for her. An elder stranding like this often results in the victim ending up in a nursing home and/or dying. A deceased cousin of mine got stranded in her front yard after slipping and falling and had to spend about a moth in a nursing home recovering. A good friend of mine got stranded, ended up in a nursing home to recover, and died about a month after he was stranded. This kind of event is so common and life threatening that every senior who lives alone ought to have one of those medical alarm necklaces.
I agree.
