Neil Diamond.... "Sweet Caroline."

Caroline Kennedy was the inspiration for his song "Sweet Caroline". I guess many people may know this but it was a surprise to me. Here is a link to the story from 2007 on USA todayLink Link to song on YouTube....Sweet Caroline

Neil Diamond’s concert at Madison Square Garden not long after 9/11 was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. That he opened his show with a huge American flag and the song America certainly helped.

It all depends on who’s perspective he was writing the song from. If he was imagining a Father Daughter relationship from seeing the photos of them together, it can explain why he would include the “hurtin’” part. The Cold War was at its peak in 1962 when she was four, but continued long after.
